Description
WORLD HERITAGE JURASSIC COASTLINE
MOST ENVIABLE POSITION UNINTERRUPTED SEA VIEWS
THE PROPERTY
Approached via attractive electric gates at the end of a no-through lane, first glimpses of this wonderful property are most impressive. The house was cleverly sited in the mid1980's to take full advantage of what is one of the most stunning positions that this renowned World Heritage coastline has to offer. The sea views are quite simply 'as good as it gets', taking in Golden Cap and Portland Bill to the southeast and the famous Cobb Harbour and Lyme Regis to the southwest. The views of Lyme Bay go on forever and on a clear day you can see as far as Torbay.
On arrival one is immediately greeted by a welcoming verandah ideal for kicking off boots after a long coastal walk or beach kit after a day at the beach.
On entering this wonderful home there is an immediate sense of charm, space and light, it has been designed with flare and attention to detail. The upside-down configuration makes the most of the fabulous panoramic view.
The large entrance hall with a study to one side, leads perfectly into the fabulous living room with triple aspect windows providing stunning sea views. It is almost impossible not to smile when entering this incredible room which is flooded with natural light. Also on this floor is a very good-sized family kitchen and dining area with a large central breakfast island with direct access, via the veranda, to the Japanese style front garden area. Just off the hall is a guest cloakroom and a practical utility and storage area.
On the lower floor are four double bedrooms. All these rooms feel spacious and will meet most family requirements. Three have French doors opening onto the wrap around terrace, two have ensuite shower rooms and three adjoining dressing rooms.
There is a lovely separate family bathroom with fragrant cedar panelling. Ample storage is provided on both levels of the house.
All plumbing and electrical services have been replaced throughout. The roof void has been fully cleared and insulated, also to modern standards. The upper-level exterior of the house is clad in natural Canadian cedar, the lower level in fire-retardant Danish Cembrit panels.
OUTSIDE
A particular feature of the property are the wonderful gardens of varying interest and character catering for sun and shade. There is plenty of car parking space, a good-sized detached garage and a large workshop, both with power and lighting. Sensor operated lighting is fitted to the front drive area and immediate surrounds.
The large workshop could make a wonderfully inspired office or studio space, taking full advantage of the glorious, elevated position.
The garden drops gently away from the house area and offers a spectacular morning walk with plenty of places to sit and enjoy the ocean and watch the boats sail by. The only sounds are those of the sea and the coastal wildlife – a perfect place of seclusion to relax and unwind in nature.
There are a mixture of lawned areas, some rewilded and some untouched natural habitats. At the lower garden is a perfectly placed bench with broad views over the coastline and the many rock platforms below, so favoured by beachcombers.
To the west side of the house is the terrace with steps leading up to a walled seating enclosure for sheltering from windy weather and enjoying outdoor relaxation in privacy.
All in all, this is a truly spectacular property in a unique location.
