Description
THE PROPERTY
In a quiet street, just a few minutes' walk from the shops in the centre of the popular market town, the beautifully proportioned Bonsoir House is one of the most attractive that Crewkerne has to offer, recognised as the best work of 19th century architect-builder John Patch. Justifiably Grade II listed to preserve its imposing Georgian-style 1826 stone façade with its striking arched sash windows under a pitched tiled roof.
On first entering this fabulous property it is almost impossible not to smile at the successful blend of old and new in the immaculately presented accommodation. The entire property was completely remodelled and restored around eleven years ago just before the present owners took up occupancy. Off the large entrance hall with its tiled chequered flooring is a very good-sized study, perfectly proportioned. Opposite on the ground floor is a charming sitting room with attractive brick and stone fireplace, used by the current owners as a formal dining room.
Also off the entrance hall a door opens onto a landing with steps down to a huge fully tanked cellar, with heat and light, ideal for storage but could also very easily be utilised for hobbies or other purposes.
The real surprise however, and very rare for a property of this type and age, is the most fabulous open plan family kitchen and dining area which is quite simply 'as good as it gets' especially on sunny mornings. To one end is the kitchen area incorporating a number of fitted wall and base units and Bosch induction hob and twin SMEG oven and central island and breakfast bar. Double doors give access to and from the south-facing private rear garden. To the other end is the dining area ideal for entertaining with another set of double doors leading out to the sunken patio area, a suntrap, perfect for alfresco breakfasts and other meals in summer. A further paved terrace with a pretty pergola offers a shaded dining area on sunny days.
The first floor offers incredibly flexible accommodation with a large double bedroom and an en suite bathroom and two superb reception rooms either of which could be used as another large bedroom. Presented to the highest possible specifications, both these rooms have high ceilings and are flooded with natural light.
Walking up to the dramatic space on the second floor you are greeted by yet more natural light. The large landing is lit by a cleverly positioned roof light and, like the whole floor, has very attractive exposed wooden beams. Having three lovely bedrooms, this truly incredible accommodation will satisfy most families' needs. The master suite, with its adjoining bath/shower room and separate walk-in wardrobe, extends across the full width of the house. On the other side of the landing are two further double bedrooms, a separate large family bathroom and large storage cupboard. Further stairs lead up to a mezzanine gallery, currently used as an artist's space, but equally useful as a quiet study area or for storage.
The mature garden to the rear of the property is an absolute delight, with two paved terraces, lawn, borders, planters and trellises, a vegetable/fruit area with easy to maintain raised beds and a separate garden shed. Easily accessible private parking for ample cars is so rare for a property this close to the centre of town.
All in all, this is the most incredible family home in Crewkerne's most sought-after location.
