Description

Charming cottage and barn with mature gardens in the heart of this thriving village.

Description

Although The Old Cottage is not listed, the property is likely to have 18th century origins and is thought to have once been thatched. Situated on a no through track on the western edge of the village, this charming property has classical proportions and a lovely mix of character, period charm, along with contemporary elements including a recent extension. The house has well presented accommodation internally, arranged over two floors with rustic stone exterior elevations, under a slate roof. A stone path leads to the front door, opening into an elegant drawing room with exposed ceiling beam and open fireplace with stone surround. Adjacent is a sitting room, also with fireplace and an attractive stripped wood floor. A rear hall has stairs to the first floor, a loo and beyond that is the dining room, with stripped wood floor, ceiling beams and a fireplace. Adjacent to this is the recently constructed garden room with double doors to outside and beyond a useful utility room with stone cobbled floor. At the rear of the house, facing west is a bright, well fitted kitchen with AGA and flagstone floor and stable door to a terrace. On the first floor is a principal bedroom suite, three further bedrooms and a family bathroom.

Outside
To the front of the house is a small level area of garden enclosed by attractive metal railings and laid to lawn. To the side of the house is a gravelled area for parking and double wooden gates leading into the rear garden where further parking is available if required together with access to an attractive old stone barn, currently used for storage, but with numerous other options for conversion subject to the necessary consents. The rear gardens are a mostly laid to lawn, bordered with a brick wall and hedging and with some attractive mature trees, shrubs and borders. Immediately to the rear of the house, outside the kitchen is a terrace facing west. From the garden, there are lovely views of the surrounding hills. In the north west corner is a thatched Bothy, with planning consent (P/HOU/2022/02470) or extension and conversion to ancillary accommodation. A stone outbuilding in the centre of the garden provides useful storage.
