Description

An attractive property with exceptional character and history, offering delightful accommodation and a garden of around 0.9 acres, opposite Anstey Park.

Description

Chandos Lodge is a detached Grade II listed property with exceptional character and history. Understood to have been built in 1840, the property has a ‘Tudoresque’ Gothic style façade with attractive Gothic arch shaped sash windows, ornamental chimneys and pretty moulded facia boards. The garden side of the property is later Georgian era addition, adding to the period charm of the property.

Throughout the property there is wonderfully spacious, bright and well-presented accommodation all with traditional proportions, including good ceiling heights, decorative skirtings and dado rails and working shutters.

Beginning with an entrance hall leading into a welcoming sitting room with attractive timber floor, elegant open fireplace and a door within the pretty wide gothic arched window providing access out to a covered veranda. This room is also open plan to a dining area and onto the family kitchen.

The kitchen and dining area has the original brick floor, there are characterful exposed beams and a fitted contemporary kitchen with a preparation island and an AGA with decorative surround.

Neighbouring the kitchen is a walk-in pantry and access into a brilliant utility/boot room, complete with original butler sink and quarry tile floor, guest WC and access out to the side of the property.

An internal hallway leads through the centre of the house to a drawing room which has the same fine timber floor, a fireplace and has a matching window and door to the sitting room, providing access out to the covered veranda.

There is a further reception room with a handsomely decorative exposed brick fireplace which provides for a family room or study. There is also a secondary entrance providing an alternative access into the property.

On the first floor there is a stained-glass light well above the landing, leading to the bedrooms. There is a principal bedroom with built in wardrobes, fireplace and en suite shower room.

There are four further bedrooms (three doubles), two with built in wardrobes, one with access to good eaves storage and all served by a family bathroom.

Chandos Lodge is accessed via electric double gates opening to a generous block paved courtyard parking area. There are also two personal gates, one opening the garden on the left and the other to the right, leading to the property entrance and parking area. There is a detached outbuilding comprising a single garage, log store and workshop. Also accessible from the outside, there is an attached store and boiler room.

The terrace and garden are a notable feature of the property. Located on the south east side of Chandos Lodge there is a beautiful veranda, ornamented by an established wisteria providing a sheltered spot to enjoy a view of the garden and alfresco dining and entertaining. There is a storeroom at one end and a green house on the other.

The paved terrace area has space for dining and alfresco comfortable seating and lead to the garden. The garden features a largely level garden with an expanse of lawn surrounded by a magnificently mature border of wild flowering borders including rhododendrons, specimen trees including ancient yews and monkey puzzle.
