Description

The exceptional qualities of The Firs is apparent from the moment you walk through the imposing double iron gates, to the stunning façade of this handsome family home.  Located within the heart of the Chew Valley's most desirable village, this period home simply cannot be overlooked.

On entering the property, steps lead to a grand entrance door, and once inside the spacious hallway is the perfect area in which to leave muddy boots from the endless walks surrounding the property,  and a cloakroom leads from the hallway.

The entrance hallway then opens through to a very attractive orangery which is filled with light and effortlessly opens to the gardens beyond.  With a gorgeous tiled floor, the bi-folding doors open to a lovely area of outside decking which takes in the views of the entire garden and beyond to the Weir.  A pair of very attractive glass doors reveal the spectacular kitchen beyond, refitted to the highest standard and personally designed by the current owner.  The saying 'a kitchen is the heart of the home' couldn't be more worthy of this beautiful room which incorporates bespoke cabinetry, with marble worktops and a large Belfast sink, integrated appliances including a waste disposal unit, dishwasher and space for a large American style fridge freezer.  The star of the show within the kitchen is the impressive Lacanche range cooker which sits in front of a beautiful marble splashback... plus a simply gorgeous glass display cabinet takes centre stage, as does the large kitchen island with matching worktop.

The kitchen opens through via a large archway to the dining room, overlooking the rear gardens and again filled with light, and incorporating a wonderful pantry cupboard and built-in bookshelves with cabinetry beneath.  A door from the dining room leads into the stunning drawing room, again filled with light from the two large sliding sash windows to the rear gardens below.  The wall of timber bookshelves on entering really does set the scene for this impressive room which also has an attractive open fireplace and slate hearth.

Into the orangery; a beautiful open strung staircase with classic Georgian spindles and delicate curved mahogany handrail, which in turn leads to the first floor, and looking back to the stairwell, a large arched window floods the landing with light.  The primary bedroom sits to the front of the house with two large sliding sash windows and a beautiful fireplace with wooden mantel and tiled hearth, and a door leads into an en-suite shower room.

Bedroom two is a generous double room, having two large windows taking in the views of the garden beyond.  A very pretty fireplace and high ceilings really do make this an extremely attractive second bedroom.  Next door is bedroom number three, again overlooking the rear gardens, and with another attractive fireplace.

A little further along the landing is the family bathroom, beautifully fitted, and showcases a traditional white suite with attractive marble tiling ... relax in the deep tub overlooking the rear gardens and enjoy the large walk-in shower.  An attractive vanity unit houses the wash hand basin.

A laundry cupboard sits to the landing and a door leads to the upper floor where you'll find the vaulted fourth bedroom with a window to the side - a perfect children's bedroom or playroom.

To the hall floor, a staircase leads down to the lower ground floor and the generous areas of cellar chamber rooms, a very attractive shower room and beyond to the vaulted cinema room or indeed bedroom five.

To the front of the property, double iron gates lead into the private parking area for The Firs, with generous parking for a number of cars which leads to the double garage, quietly tucked around the corner, and which has a pedestrian door to the rear gardens.  The front of the property is beautifully planted with mature trees, shrubs and borders.

The rear gardens are accessed from the orangery (there is also side access from the driveway) ... a true delight and hugely benefits from being south facing.  The first tier of the gardens sit beneath the hall floor of the property and features a large area of attractive shingle - perfect for alfresco dining and for taking in the wonderful views beyond the gardens.  Further tiers of lawn run down to the River Chew.  The first tier is laid to lawn with a large summerhouse. Steps then lead to an area of raised beds with a pathway meandering through further areas of garden and onto the river which is simply stunning and a real retreat.

What we love about this property... the undeniable sense of arrival through grand iron gates to a beautifully reimagined period home, where light-filled living spaces, a spectacular bespoke kitchen with Lacanche range, and enchanting south-facing gardens cascading to the River Chew create an exceptional village setting.

Welcome to Debbie Fortune Estate Agents

Debbie Fortune Estate Agents are more than just estate agents — we’re your neighbours, your advocates, and your trusted guide through every step of your property journey. Independent, experienced, and rooted in the community — welcome to estate agency, the way it used to be.

We do things differently — not louder, not faster, just better. We’re a proudly independent, family-run agency covering a wide area over the North Somerset and Somerset counties, including the Wrington Vale, the Yeo Valley, Chew Valley and The Mendips. Our friendly team blends decades of local knowledge with a tailored, personal service you simply won’t find with the corporates or online non-High Street agencies.

Property Sales

Every home we represent is treated with the care and attention it deserves — no generic templates, no faceless call centres, just real people offering real advice. We believe estate agency should be built on trust, not targets. Whether you're selling, letting, buying or renting, we're here to guide you with honesty, warmth and sharp local insight — from the first call to the final handshake.

Lettings and Management

A fully integrated service whether you are looking for 'let only' or a 'fully managed' approach, with a particular focus on keeping our landlords in touch with ever changing legislation ensuring they comply with the law.

Mortgages

Our recommended mortgage advisors help our sellers and buyers find the right mortgage product for their needs.

Land & New Homes

Handling the sale of all types of new homes from one-off plots to large developments, our service includes land finding, advice on development values, buying trends, bespoke marketing and investment.

Social Responsibility

Community isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we actively support. For 2026, we have pledged to donate a percentage of every house sale to Weston Hospicecare with a minimum target of £10,000. It’s a charity that means a great deal to us and our local community, and every instruction we receive contributes towards that goal. We are proud to stand alongside them and help ensure their vital work can continue.
