It is undeniable that we live in stressful times and each of us has our own way of dealing with this; whether it is sitting and gazing out to sea where the enormity of the ocean reminds us of our own insignificance, or seeking the peace and silence of a forest, where we are soothed by the gentle rustling of the breeze through the branches.....
There are too many of us to allow everyone the option of dwelling beside the sea, so the remainder must seek their solace further inland, where even here, locations providing true peace are becoming harder to find.
Imagine discovering a small enclave of homes on the hill behind the beauty of Loggerheads Country Park, which is an area of outstanding natural beauty, surrounded by thick woodland, offering peace and serenity, where the silence is almost tangible, and the cares of the world can simply pass you by.
If this vision already sounds too good to be true, imagine it all a mere 10 minutes outside Mold so 'civilisation', should you need it, remains on your doorstep, giving the best of all worlds.
Cefn Bychan Woods is a single-track cul-de-sac marking the border between open pastureland and (unsurprisingly) the woods themselves, separating these select few homes from their adjacent gardens and garages, which are located on the opposite side.
It is here that we find the grounds owned by Ashlea, where a large parking area lies to the front of a detached double garage and where power and light make it more of a fully equipped workshop, unless you are a particularly avid car collector, but either way, you have ample space to indulge your fantasies.
Beside here, an area of gravel leads to a low picket fence beyond which is a square piece of paving before a large lawn, containing various shrubs and small trees, eventually finishes at a boundary fence. I say finishing, but in truth, the property continues another few yards before giving way to the woods themselves. These woods can offer children hours of fun outdoors, something that an iPad will never be able to provide.
Overlooking this lawn and the woods are two wooden chalets, one best suited for storage while its larger brother is in far better condition with views that make it the perfect summer house from which to enjoy the solitude.
Crossing the road towards the home, there is an enclosed garden to the front where a plethora of raised flower beds allow you to spend evenings in a sheltered haven filled with colour and scent, protected by wooden screens from the prying eyes of passing traffic. Yes, I realise it's imaginary traffic, but you never know.
Beside here, a small parking area would contain an additional couple of cars should it ever become necessary before wide paved steps lead up to the home's front door.
Stepping onto the ceramic tiled floor of the generous entrance porch, a door on our right reveals the cloakroom. Now this is an actual cloakroom, a room for cloaks, if we were still living in the 18th Century! This is the perfect place to hide all the boots, shoes and sturdy outdoor clothing that is de rigueur in the countryside. Now, make no mistake, we may be only a short drive from Mold, but this is an environment that could, with only a little encouragement, bring out your real love for Wildlife and real Nature!
From here, a semi glazed door leads into the main spacious hallway, where the practical and attractive ceramic floor continues and where the staircase rises on our left.
Opposite the bottom of the stairs is the door into the kitchen, a room with more than enough space to accommodate a fair-sized dining table, freeing up the formal dining room for other purposes and thus adding to the home's versatility.
Beyond the dining table is a large set of patio doors opening onto a sitting area, where the slope of the land behind the home makes it almost feel slightly sunken and gives a level of shelter that would greatly increase its use.
Turning to the remainder of the kitchen, this is almost separated by a large breakfast bar with masses of storage set into its base, providing useful additional worktop space. There are fitted units to the remaining three walls which contain everything the discerning chef could hope for; however, when their creativity has been enjoyed, but life still makes demands, the more mundane chores are catered for in the attached utility room.
This contains further units, worktops, a sink and plumbing for the washer and dryer. Another advantage of this arrangement is the separation of the noisier appliances from the place where you actually spend time. After dinner conversation can become a bit stilted when having to be shouted over a repeating spin cycle....
Adjacent to here is the secondary lounge, a cosy and welcoming space with ample room for all but the most flamboyant tastes in furniture and even then, it would probably cope.
To the rear of the room an archway opens up into the sunroom with its impressive Velux roof lights. These, combined with large windows produce something akin to a conservatory but with none of the associated disadvantages. Being solid, it avoids the extremes of heat and cold afflicting the traditional conservatory but is blessed with sufficient glass to give the 'outdoor' feeling we crave. Like so many things it is a compromise, but one which works so well you never give it a thought. And if it is the country atmosphere that appeals to you, this time of year brings the wonderful sight of new born lambs gambolling outside your window and you can't put a price on that...actually you can, it's just the price of this home!
Crossing the hall to the main lounge, we enter a large room, running as it does the full width of the building and providing space for a massive dining table perfect for those special occasions. Even with this table in situ the remainder of the room constitutes a luxuriously proportioned living space where the main focal point comes in the shape of the traditional log burning stove nestling in the fireplace.
I have seen in a house identical to tis, where this room has been split into two separate rooms, creating another bedroom downstairs or other useful room where privacy is paramount.
The remaining door off the hall is into the family bathroom, where any misgivings you may have about it being on the ground floor are immediately forgiven, swept away by your enthusiasm for the way it has been fitted out. So many modern bathrooms seem to feature bland white fitted furniture but here, the simple twist of giving these the appearance of wood transforms the whole room, making it feel special. There is a table top hand basin with storage drawers beneath, a unitary lavatory and a traditional bath, the white finish of which contrasts nicely with the marble of the accompanying tile work. In one corner is a stylish walk-in shower where the hot water is drawn directly from the recently replaced oil fired central heating boiler. This means an end to everything suddenly running cold when you least expect it.
This new boiler has also been fitted externally.
Moving outside, there is a path running beside the home, which then turns across the rear of the property, leading to the sheltered patio area beside the dining room. This path is bordered by a wooden structure, which cunningly hides the oil storage tank and which has a seating area placed on its top, accessed from steps which lead from the path to the high level lawn. This is a garden of great charm, over several levels and offering a variety of sitting and relaxing areas, surrounded by various raised planters with a mixture of colourful plants. Always interesting, it is a delight to the eye and the perfect spot to revel in the peace that makes this home so special. It also looks out over the adjacent field...it doesn't get much better than this, after all, you get a fabulous outlook without ever having to mow the lawn!
Moving upstairs from the hall, we arrive at what I see as almost a minstrel's gallery overlooking the stair well before we find a corridor leading to the first of the bedrooms.
Set into the roof and with a ceiling that follows its shape, this atmospheric room has a charm of its own, accentuated by the fabulous rounded French windows looking out onto the Romeo & Juliet balcony and fields beyond. The room also has its own en suite, neatly tiled and containing a unitary hand basin with additional storage, lavatory and walk-in shower cubicle.
Adjacent to here and also overlooking the garden the second bedroom is larger and more rectangular, while enjoying a similarly bucolic view and providing more than enough space to ensure you are never short of storage.
Crossing the landing we pass the upstairs bathroom with its ceramic floor and tiled walls and which contains a fitted linen chest, unitary hand basin and lavatory combination, while in one corner is a large glass walk-in shower cubicle.
Finally, overlooking the woods at the front of the home we come to the principal bedroom. To give some idea of its proportions, it currently contains large double bed with twin bedside cabinets, two free standing wardrobes, a formal dressing table and two huge chests of drawers, all while leaving enough free floor space to host a party. If additional storage is needed, it can be found in the eaves, accessed through a pair of doors into the loft space.

All in all, this is a home that brings Desert Island Discs to mind; somewhere to remove yourself from the complications of the world, but happily, the isolation, like the program being largely imaginary, never becomes an issue. Instead, you have the choice of how much, or how little involvement you have with the outside world because remember, it is only 10 minutes down the road. The accommodation is flexible, comfortable and spacious, the garden and grounds are lovely and offer enormous possibilities, and it remains in immaculate condition..... so give Berry and George a call today, it'll be the best thing you do all day...unless you're a film star, racing driver etc, in which case, it'll be the 2nd best thing you do!
