Description

Property Experts Will Tell You Location Is Everything, Clearly They've Never Seen This Kitchen. An upgraded Victorian terrace where every decision was well made - pine floors, exposed brick, 2021 Bosch kitchen. And the station within walking distance, because location is important after all.

The property experts aren't wrong about location - Alton station is a ten-minute walk away, meaning you can get to Waterloo in just over an hour. But it turns out both things can be true - because the quality of the upgrades here are genuinely impressive - and the kitchen really is that good.

From the outside, it's an attractive red-brick Victorian mid-terrace - with a bay window, original arched porch, the kind of frontage that tells you what's inside will be worth a look.

Inside, the current owners have spent five years making thoughtful, considered improvements that add up to something genuinely special.

The sitting and dining room runs the full depth of the ground floor - with re-sanded and re-varnished pine floorboards underfoot, an exposed brick chimney breast in the sitting room with its original cast iron fireplace, and a second fireplace in the dining area.

The rooms are open to each other but defined enough to feel like two proper spaces. It's warm, characterful and full of light.

Then there's the kitchen. The previous chimney breast came out to create it, and the result is a stylish proper galley kitchen rebuilt from scratch in the summer of 2021.

It’s a lovely room, with cream shaker cabinets, warm hardwood worktops, a Belfast sink with a matte black bridge tap, and those deep green metro tiles that photograph beautifully and look even better in person.

The Bosch double oven and gas-in-glass hob are staying. The white goods can stay too, subject to negotiation. French doors at the far end open directly onto the garden - on a sunny morning, you'll have them open before the coffee's finished brewing.

Upstairs, the main bedroom carries the period feel through beautifully - with slate blue walls, the original cast iron fireplace, fitted wardrobe with etched glass panels, and plantation shutters on the windows.

The second bedroom works well as a child's room or guest room, with its own original fireplace painted in a soft sage green.

The bathroom has been properly upgraded too. The chimney breast came out here too, which has made real space for a bath with an overhead shower, a classic pedestal basin and dark slate-effect floor tiles.

The loft room is a real bonus space. It’s light and bright, with a Velux window and exposed brickwork at the apex - currently used as a home office and occasional guest room with a day bed. It can't be classed as a 3rd bedroom but as a working-from-home setup it's genuinely hard to beat.

The back garden has real character - there’s a stone-flagged patio directly off the kitchen, wisteria scrambling overhead, two jasmine plants and a buddleia that the bees love in summer. There's a lawn behind, a shed with power at the bottom, and being northeast facing, the whole thing catches the morning sun.

Alton itself is a Georgian market town with a picture postcard high street with independent shops worth visiting, along with the big names like Waitrose, M&S and Sainsbury's.

Youngs Road is quiet and residential, and the station is only a ten-minute walk away.

This is a smart and stylish home where the handy location works for our busy modern lives and the standard of refurbishment genuinely deserves the headlines.
