Description
Description
Rickeston Hall is a character Grade II* listed late Georgian gentry farmhouse located near the coast in Pembrokeshire. It is named after a Norman, Rickart. In the sixteenth century it was owned by the ap Rhys family. It was tenanted by Evan Griffith in 1740 and bought by Samuel Griffith in 1785, who renamed it Rickeston Hall. It was built for a Samuel Griffith in c.1824 although the rear wing may be older. It offers extensive accommodation space (potential for an annexe) with four reception rooms, store rooms, old buttery and dairy, six bedrooms, two bathrooms and a shower room. It enjoys landscaped gardens and grounds, two large pasture fields and large area of woodland. In all, the property extends to about 16 acres.
Accommodation Ground Floor & Cellar
A welcoming front entrance leads into an entrance porch that then opens into the main reception hall with doors leading off to the principal reception rooms. At the far end of the hall is a door leading to a store room and stairs down to the cellar. On the left is the dining room with an ornate fireplace with a wood burning stove providing a warm focal point. A door on the right of the hall opens into the main sitting room, again with an ornate fireplace and wood burning stove. A door opens from the sitting room to the adjacent breakfast room with an Aga taking centre stage. Off this room is the kitchen with space for appliances and a sink. A door opens from the kitchen to the old buttery and dairy with slate slabs. Another door off the kitchen leads to the side entrance hall with door to outside and a separate staircase that leads up to the sixth bedroom with its own bathroom. A further door off the side hall leads into the living room that features a large inglenook fireplace with old bread oven and impressive exposed beams. A door leads off to the second kitchen area.
First Floor
A fine curved staircase winds its way upwards from the end of the reception hall to the first floor extensive accommodation. On this floor are four large bedrooms that overlook the front gardens and a fifth that overlooks the side gardens. These share the use of a family bathroom and a separate shower room. A doorway leads from the bathroom across to the sixth bedroom that has its own separate bathroom adjacent.
Second Floor
The main staircase continues up the second floor where there is a large attic room that is currently used for storage/hobbies but has potential for conversion into further bedroom space.
Externally
The property enjoys large landscaped grounds and gardens including a side courtyard with ample parking and turning area for vehicles, large lawned areas, old walled garden, mature hedges, trees, bushes, shrubs, flower borders, large areas of woodland (parts are designated ancient woodland) and two large pasture fields that are ideal of those who wish to keep animals etc. In addition, there are some character old stone outbuildings including the old carriage house, old stone poultry house with square openings, old stone brewhouse/outside kitchen, a useful modern general purpose outbuilding/workshop and field shelter/stables.
Location
Rickeston Hall is located only about four miles from the picturesque fishing village of Solva within the famous Pembrokeshire Coast National Park. Solva is a beautiful traditional fishing village with a beach, good pubs, cafés, restaurants, art galleries and shops.
The historical ‘city’ of St David's City is only about seven miles and has numerous pubs, restaurants, cafés, shops and an independent supermarket.
It also features a medieval Bishop's Palace and Cathedral which were built in a natural hollow so that they were not visible by raiders from the sea.
Haverfordwest which is the County Town of Pembrokeshire is about 15 miles and has supermarkets, pubs, cafés and restaurants. Carmarthen and the A48 M4 link road is about 43 miles to the east providing quick access to south Wales (Swansea about 70 miles, Cardiff about 113 miles) the Severn Bridge and beyond.
The beaches in Pembrokeshire are probably some of the most spectacular in the country.
Apart from Solva beach, Whitesands beach near St David's is a sandy beach suitable for surfing and swimming. Newgale beach with its rugged, sweeping vista is also very impressive, again offering excellent surfing. Travelling further afield to the north you will find Abereiddy beach which is a popular spot for coasteering an excellent outdoor pursuit for children and adults alike. The local area also provides one of the best areas for scuba diving.
If you just want a short walk around the coast next to Solva then the Gribin Coastal Walk is ideal or a longer walk starting from Porthclais harbour is fun. Just as interesting is a walk in the Preseli Hills and Mountains to see first hand where the Stonehenge "blue stones" originated.
There is an incredible amount of wildlife to observe whilst walking the coast or you can take a boat trip to visit Skomar or Ramsey islands where you will see puffins, seals and dolphins. Equally there are excellent bird watching opportunities throughout Pembrokeshire.
For golfers there are two very good golf courses at St Davids and Haverfordwest.
