We have to remember that a house has been a home long before you came along. This house has seen some lovely memories that will live on, so try to imagine some of these times from the past, before you start planning on how you can turn this home into something that you can enjoy. Something that will allow you to live on for a long time after you have left here too, as this home is a forever home.
The previous occupier lived in this beautiful house for 38 years; she loved every day living in this home, remembering all the good times that had been shared here. The lounge was a place to retire to, the kitchen was the hub where everyone gathered, and the cups of tea overflowed. Her favourite place was the garden, a little haven to escape into, pottering around and enjoying the space with a nice cup of tea.
Hunting for your perfect home is always something of a balancing act; if it is not a new build, how much work will be needed to transform it into the house of your dreams? Will it provide everything you need to satisfy your family? Are there any schools nearby? Are the shops easily accessible?
As ever, many of these questions are concerning location, but we should never forget the house itself because, if it is the right style and type, numerous perceived shortcomings can be overlooked... as I said, it's a balancing act, but let's start with the things that are non-negotiable.
Is it vastly inconvenient to live in, with all the facilities you need too far away to be of use? Are the transport links easily usable and, perhaps most importantly, has it got the character to make it attractive in the first place?
If it's character you're looking for because of the happy memories of your elderly relatives' homes built in the early years of the 20th century, and wish to sample a slightly more up to date version for yourself, this one could fit the bill.
Sitting on the main Mold Road, and thus ideally placed for public transport between Buckley and Mold and beyond, this is a substantial looking detached home in its' own gardens, and it has an unmistakable air of respectability.
To the front of the house is a mature garden, where a mass of colourful shrubs surrounds the lawn and thick hedges give a degree of privacy, very rare considering so close to a major thoroughfare.
Beside the garden, on a gradual slope the drive continues up past the home to a detached garage at the rear and where it widens out, provides a handy vehicle turning point beside the raised lawn. Once again, the lawn is surrounded by a profusion of colour with similarly thick hedges maintaining complete privacy, making it ideal for young children to play out, safely away from the main road.
Three steps from the drive lead to the outer porch offering protection to the front door. It is a spacious porch and being largely glass, it is an excellent spot for potted plants, which would thrive. It's also a great space for wet shoes and coasts before stepping inside.
Another door takes us into the inner hallway where the crafted turned staircase rises on our right. Opposite the staircase is the door into the front facing lounge, with its period fireplace and the living flame gas fire it contains. There are feature covings around the walls, tying the home firmly into its time frame.
Across the hall there is a door concealing the void beneath the stairs, that ever vital hideaway for all a home's little secrets and things that need somewhere to go but are too ugly to be left on show. After all, whoever heard of a pretty hoover?
Beside here is the door into the ground floor bathroom/shower room. This features a modern vanity hand basin with storage drawers beneath, lavatory and a double size walk-in shower with a twin headed rain shower. This draws its hot water directly from the home's Worcester gas combi central heating boiler. The advantage of this is that you can never run out of hot water, which is a real comfort on a cold morning.
The remaining door from the hall leads to the kitchen / dining room, which is laid out with three separate banks of fitted units, one against the far wall with the others fitted around the box bay window. There is plenty of space in here for a dining table and chairs, making this an ideal family home in which the family can sit down and eat meals together. The floor is laid with attractive and practical ceramic tiles. In the corner of the room the back door opens onto the rear garden.
Moving upstairs, I expected to find that bête noir of so many three bedroom homes, namely the very small third boxroom. So, imagine my delight at being confronted by a well proportioned and more importantly double bedroom. The second bedroom is a full sized double bedroom able to accommodate a plethora of free standing furniture.
Back onto the landing where another door reveals the upstairs lavatory with its accompanying hand basin. This is where the home displays its vintage in that this arrangement, once common, has become something of a rarity today. With a little creativity and practical help, another family bathroom could easily be built up here though....but seek professional advice first please.
Finally, there is the principal bedroom which is, needless to say, by far the largest of the upstairs rooms, with space for all the furniture you could ever want. One interesting feature in here is the attractive Victorian cast iron fireplace. This is a bedroom and some, it's sheer size and flexibility are something that modern homes can only dream of.
