Gullane is well known for its golf courses, which surround the village. There are three golf clubs in the village: Gullane (three courses), Luffness and Muirfield. The area is also popular with water sports enthusiasts, with a coastal rowing club, wind surfing and a sailing school located at North Berwick harbour.

Edinburgh and the airport are easily accessible via the A1 and the Edinburgh City Bypass as well as by train which is available at the nearby village of Drem. Local schooling is available in both Gullane and North Berwick and all the private schools of Edinburgh are also within reach.
