Dating back to around 1751 this charming Georgian style four bedroom detached country cottage is steeped in history and is the last remaining artisan wooden building in the ever popular village of Hayes, Kent.

The front bedroom features the original build date inscribed in the plaster however the property has undergone numerous changes since then. In 1802 Gabriel Hutfield bought the house modernising it around 1818, the front elevation was constructed in brick, laid in Flemish bond and the central front entrance was given a porch and surrounded by five sash windows. The initial's "GH 1818" are inscribed on one of the chimney stacks. The property was owned by various different local families until 1978 when the property was purchased by Christine & Brian Johnstone, who completely restored the cottage and compiled its history. An architect designed wooden extension was added by the current owners in 2005 to create an open plan living area, utility, separate shower and toilet and a larger bathroom on the 1st floor.

The accommodation of some 1969 sqft comprises as follows; to the ground floor the central entrance hall leads to both front reception rooms, each with working fireplaces/log burners. The main open plan kitchen, dining and living area measures approximately 28' x 23' and features a seating and dining area with a working log burner in addition to the country style kitchen complete with an Aga range cooker. There is also a utility room, shower room & W.C and cellar ideal for wine or general storage. To the first floor of the property there are to be found four bedrooms, each with fitted storage and the sizable family bathroom. Externally the stunning rear garden is filled with mature plants, shrubs, various trees and a summer house and two patio areas. There is also the benefit of a second section of the garden that boasts a large oak tree, a greenhouse, studio and large storage shed which make a fantastic addition to the available outside space. The property is locally listed.
