The property is approached via double gates, opening into an enclosed courtyard area with space for parking and outdoor seating. Full-height fencing gives the space a good degree of seclusion, making it a useful and private outside area for dining, relaxing or returning from the beach.

Location:
The Hideaway is tucked away in a private cul-de-sac in Southwold, one of Suffolk’s most desirable coastal towns. The property is well placed for access to the town’s independent shops, cafés, pubs and restaurants, as well as the beach, pier and seafront.
Southwold is renowned for its colourful beach huts, working lighthouse, traditional pier and attractive Georgian and Victorian architecture. The town has a strong year-round appeal, combining classic seaside charm with excellent local amenities, making it popular with holidaymakers, second-home owners and permanent residents alike.
The surrounding area offers wonderful coastal and countryside walks, with nearby Walberswick, the River Blyth, Dunwich, Reydon and the wider Suffolk Coast and Heaths landscape all within easy reach.
Owner's comment:
We have always felt that Southwold is one of the best places to own a holiday house. When we first moved to Suffolk, we knew we wanted to find a property here, and we were very lucky to get a second chance with The Hideaway after initially losing it at best and final offers.
The house is one of a row of old fishermen’s cottages and still retains lovely original features, including the trap door down to the small cellar, where nets — and often fish — would once have been stored.
When we bought it, the house needed work. We wanted to redefine the space and create a more sociable feel, while retaining its original character and introducing a more contemporary design. It has since proved to be a very successful holiday let, first through an agency and later managed by us directly through Airbnb.
What we perhaps didn’t fully appreciate at first was just how central The Hideaway is. Over the years, many guests have returned time and again, and the location is always one of the main reasons. It is wonderfully tucked away, yet within easy reach of the town and the sea.
From the upstairs windows you can see the lighthouse, and you can hear the bells from St Edmund’s Church. The Playhouse theatre is moments away and the brewery is just around the corner, yet once the gates are closed the house feels incredibly private, calm and quiet.
That combination of centrality, privacy and convenience — together with the crucial parking space — has made The Hideaway extremely popular, with continued repeat bookings.
The house has served us very well as a fantastic small business for the last 12 years. We are sad to sell, but we now live further away and the turnaround times are no longer practical for us.

We had a lovely weekend at the Hideaway. The cottage is secluded but very close to the sea and high street. Inside is very comfortable and the sliding doors in the middle bedroom are a great idea.

An excellent place to stay in Southwold. Fantastic accommodation and location. Four adults and a one year old on our trip. We had everything we could need, really was a home from home. Lovely to have milk ready for us in the fridge along with a bottle of Prosecco! Comfy beds, brilliant showers, peaceful at night, it was perfect.
