Occupying a prime elevated position along The Cliff in the charming coastal village of Ferryside, this beautifully presented detached home enjoys panoramic views across the estuary and offers a rare combination of period elegance, fascinating heritage, and expansive family living.
Rich in character, the property showcases an impressive array of original features, including striking fireplaces, a decorative stained-glass window, a traditional servants’ bell system, and authentic flagstone flooring. The interior strikes a perfect balance between timeless charm and practical modern living, creating a warm and welcoming family home.

The ground floor opens into an inviting entrance hall, complete with access to the cellar. The living room is generously proportioned and centred around an original fireplace, complemented by an additional sitting room and a formal dining room with French doors leading directly onto the garden.
At the heart of the home is the well-appointed kitchen/diner, featuring a working Rayburn that provides both hot water and cooking facilities. This space is further enhanced by a utility room, pantry, and WC, with the kitchen, utility, and pantry all retaining their original flagstone floors—adding both practicality and historic charm.
Ascending the staircase, a beautiful stained-glass window creates a stunning focal point. A convenient shower room is located on the half landing, while the first floor offers four spacious double bedrooms and a family bathroom ideally positioned to capture spectacular sunsets over the estuary.
One of the bedrooms benefits from an additional adjoining room, offering flexible use as a home office, dressing room, or potential en-suite (subject to the necessary consents).

Externally, the property continues to impress. The substantial front garden is mainly laid to lawn and enclosed by original railings and gates, providing a secure and attractive space for children and pets.
To the rear, a beautifully landscaped cottage-style garden features patio seating areas, raised beds, and mature planting, forming a peaceful and private retreat ideal for relaxation or entertaining.
The garden extends to a terraced upper level adjoining the access road. Subject to the appropriate planning permissions, this area offers exciting potential for off-road parking, a garage, or the creation of a garden room or studio.

History of the house

The house and gardens were designed and built to fulfil the requirements of George Parry, a famous Welsh scientist who was significant in the history of the steel industry. He was the Works Chemist at Ebbw Vale steelworks in the 1850s and came very close to achieving worldwide fame for developing a new steel-making process. The steelworks were bought out by the English scientist Henry Bessemer, just before Parry could patent his invention. However, the deal made Parry a very wealthy man, and in 1868 he bought a plot in his favourite holiday village, Ferryside and had this house built as his retirement home. Determined to maximise his space, the house was built from the inside out between the existing houses either side. The house was originally called Steel Villa but was renamed Delfryn after Parry died, when it was bought by a local, Welsh family. Parry’s grave can be found at the top of the path which leads up past the church entrance at St Ishmael, Ferryside.
