Description
Description
In prime position for enjoying the footpaths and vibrant village life of charming Withington, The Old Forge is a delightful Grade II-listed cottage of limestone construction, believed to date back to the 15th century. The property is said to have been a former rest house for pilgrims visiting Hailes Abbey and, in later years, has been used as an inn, a forge and a Post Office. The inside is as lovely as the exterior, with beautifully preserved beams, wood doors, stone detailing and impressive fireplaces. The cottage has been sympathetically modernised while maintaining the character of the home, creating an inviting and beautifully presented space.
Downstairs, a central hallway leads to the well-proportioned sitting room and onwards to the dining room, which has French windows to the rear terrace and access to a cloakroom with WC. The kitchen is situated on the opposite side of the hall and features sage green painted cabinetry, stone floors and windows to the front and rear providing good natural light. The first floor has three double bedrooms – one en suite – a smaller single bedroom or study and a family bathroom.
Outside
The Old Forge is positioned in the heart of the village, facing onto a small green, the village post box and the primary school (recently closed). There is parking at the front of the property on a brick-paved area and to the side, where a driveway leads alongside the property to a pair of five-bar gates opening to a gravel parking area and a single garage. The rear garden is attractively landscaped with mature trees and hedging around the boundary making it feel wonderfully private. A paved terrace leads across a gravel seating area to a generously sized lawn enclosed by pretty borders of shrubs and flowering plants, with a stone outbuilding providing use as a log store.
