Wylam has some local amenities including shopping facilities, public houses and restaurants and has numerous community groups and activities, many of which are held at Wylam Institute in the village centre. There are further facilities and shops in Crawcrook village centre and in nearby Prudhoe, along the A695. Trains run regularly from the station along the Carlisle to Newcastle line.
