Description
Description
Originally built in 1822 for the Calvinistic Methodists, Bethesda Chapel was extended in 1864 and later rebuilt in 1903. The chapel remained at the heart of village life for over 150 years, serving the community of Pentredwr, including a dispersed population of farmers and quarry workers. It closed in the 1990s and was subsequently converted to residential use in 1998.
Externally, the chapel retains its traditional Welsh character, while the addition of a first floor has created a residence full of character, with a range of quirky and historic features, resulting in a unique and interesting home.
The chapel is entered via a porch into a generous living room, where the focal point is an impressive stone wall and chimney breast with a stove fireplace, providing an ideal setting for cosy evenings. French doors to the rear open onto a patio area, well suited to al fresco dining. The kitchen lies adjacent within the red brick extension, and a useful utility room provides access to the rear. A downstairs WC completes the accommodation on this floor.
Stairs from the living room lead to a small landing. To the right is the principal bedroom with en suite facilities, while a corridor to the left leads to the family bathroom and three further bedrooms.
Externally, a private drive to the side of the property provides access and parking, while to the rear there is a patio area leading to a tiered garden.
Nestled within a valley, with views over the surrounding countryside, Bethesda Chapel presents an opportunity to acquire an individual home in a stunning rural setting.
Location
Situated within the Clwydian Range and Dee Valley National Park, Bethesda Chapel lies off the Horseshoe Pass, a mountain pass which separates Llantysilio Mountain from Maesyrychen Mountain, in the village of Pentredwr. The village has a thriving community centre located in the old primary school which hosts a pop-up pub, concerts and community events.
The nearby town of Llangollen offers a wide range of amenities such as schools, a health centre, a wide range of shops including greengrocers, butchers, bakers and supermarket as well as numerous small boutiques. There are several hotels and a good range of cafes, bars and restaurants.
Llangollen plays host to the renowned International Musical Eisteddfod, and The Pavillion provides theatre and musical events throughout the year. The Llangollen railway runs along the river Dee, providing heritage trips through the beautiful Dee Valley and can be taken to the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct, a UNESCO world heritage site approx. 7 miles away. The property is also well situated for many leisure activities in the area such as walking along nearby Offa's Dyke or up to Dinas Bran Castle, golf at the Vale of Llangollen golf club, or horse racing at Bangor-On-Dee and Chester.
Bethesda Chapel is ideally located for business centres within North and Mid Wales and has excellent road links to the Midlands and North West via the A5. Further afield is the commercial, retail and leisure centre of historic Chester. Rail links are available from Ruabon direct to Birmingham, and Chester offers a intercity service to London (approx. 2hrs)
