Excellent city living, with great facilities but overheating issues
The development has a lot going for it. There are plenty of social spaces to meet friends, quiet areas to study or work, games facilities, rooms available for private functions, and several outdoor terraces, which feel like a real luxury in the middle of the city. The gym is excellent — one of the best I have used in a residential development — and the 24/7 concierge team are responsive and helpful while also providing a reassuring level of security.
For me, the best thing about the accommodation is the diversity of the people who live here. There is a wide range of ages, backgrounds and nationalities, and I genuinely enjoy meeting people in the shared spaces and lifts and finding out a little more about them. The building team also do a great job of creating opportunities for residents to connect, including things like the running club, gardening club, arts and crafts, and other social activities. It helps the building feel much more like a community rather than just a place to live.
It is also great that the building allows pets. However, it is unfortunate that a few irresponsible dog owners appear to have resulted in restrictions on which terraces can be used with dogs. It is also disappointing that some residents smoke on the non-smoking terraces, as these outdoor spaces are one of the real strengths of the development.
The main issue is that the building is too hot. The air-flow system is ineffective, and air conditioning really should have been installed, particularly given the concrete construction. The building has solar panels, which should make cooling more sustainable than it might otherwise be. I have not had my heating on since the beginning of March, which does save money, but the temperature can be a real problem. The bedrooms can be stifling at night, making it difficult to sleep, and at times it is hot enough that I am reluctant to leave my dog in the apartment by herself.
There are also some issues with the apartment finish and fault remediation. The flooring in the apartments is not of the same standard as other fit-out elements, with noticeable bubbling in places. In addition, the team responsible for remediating building faults has been slow to resolve issues. That said, the building’s own maintenance person is very responsive, which is appreciated. Overall, this is a very good development in a superb location, with excellent facilities and a real sense of community, but the heat, flooring and slower fault remediation do need attention.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
Candleriggs is right in the city centre, so it would be unrealistic to expect it to be silent. That said, the noise from nearby bars and restaurants usually dies down around midnight most evenings, so it is manageable. The location is excellent: there is a fantastic range of shops, cafés, restaurants and everyday facilities within a five-minute walk. Glasgow Green is also right on the doorstep, which is a real bonus and provides lovely walks along the Clyde with a surprisingly green, almost countryside feel. Transport links are very convenient, with both main train stations within around 15 minutes’ walk, plenty of buses nearby, and the airport bus stop also about 15 minutes away on foot. Bin collection for the building has not always been frequent enough, although there have been some improvements recently.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
The on-site building team are generally responsive, helpful and easy to deal with, particularly the concierge/security team and the building’s own maintenance team. Day-to-day issues are usually acknowledged quickly. However, where problems require wider defect remediation or involvement beyond the immediate on-site team, the process can be slow and the communication around timescales could be clearer.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I wish I had known quite how warm the apartments can get. The building retains heat, and the air-flow system does not seem to be very effective, so the bedrooms can be uncomfortably hot at night even when the heating has not been on for months. It is worth thinking carefully about ventilation, especially if you have a pet or are sensitive to sleeping in a warm room.
On the positive side, I also wish I had appreciated quite how sociable the building can be. The shared spaces, resident activities and mix of neighbours make it feel much more like a community than I expected from a city-centre apartment building.

Excellent :)
I love the layout of the building, design and colour scheme. Facilities within the building are second to none.
Mail room, gym, events and other aspects, as well as availability of staff, help with repairs etc is stress reducing to the highest level :)
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
I love being so close to work and all facilities/banks etc. No issues with bin collection or anything like that.
The only thing that can be slightly less inspiring is the noise after eg football matches etc but obviously there is little that can be done about that and I did appreciate forewarning before certain matches.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Reasonable and within a short period of time for someone to get back to you.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I have shared nothing but good things with people whom I have spoken to!
All of the above is what I would say.

A Secure, Supportive and Well-Managed Community with Minor Areas for Improvement
The development is secure, well-maintained, and has great facilities. The staff and security team are always friendly, helpful, and responsive, and any maintenance issues are usually dealt with quickly. I also appreciate the tenant events and local discounts offered through the building.
The only drawbacks are that the North section can feel a little isolated from the main facilities, and some common areas could benefit from more regular cleaning and improved ventilation, particularly around the bin room, hallways, and lift areas in the North section. Overall, it has been a very positive experience living here.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
I’ve lived here for about 9 months and have had a great experience overall. The location is excellent, with plenty of cafés, restaurants, and shops nearby. The city centre is only a short walk away, and the subway station is just a few minutes from the complex, so there’s rarely a need for public transportation.
There can occasionally be some noise due to the central location, but it’s nothing unusual and is to be expected in a busy area. Overall, it’s a very convenient and well-connected place to live.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
The staff and security team are always friendly, helpful, and responsive, and any maintenance issues are usually dealt with quickly
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
The viewing process was very informative, and I felt that I was given a clear understanding of the building, facilities, and what to expect before moving in. One thing I was not aware of was that delivery drivers are not permitted to enter the building, meaning residents need to collect deliveries from outside. This can be a little inconvenient at times, although I understand it is in place for security reasons.
Similarly, visitors and short-term guests often need to be registered or communicated in advance. While I appreciate that these measures help maintain a safe and secure environment, a little more flexibility for occasional visitors or family members would be welcomed.

Thank you Candleriggs
The design is great. Very modern. I love the facilities especially the gym. It’s the biggest gym amongst all of the other accommodations. The management is friendly and helpful. You always have your questions answered and your concerns addressed. The staff are also kind, helpful and friendly. We always love greeting them and talking to them. What makes Candleriggs special compared to other accommodations is that they care about and encourage socializing amongst tenants. That is why they helped me to organize, host and promote my book club which I really appreciate.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
The location is great. I love that there are nearby shops that give discounts when you show them the Candleriggs keychain.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Promptly and thoroughly. If a problem couldn’t be fixed immediately they always give temporary solutions until it is fixed
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
I think the parking. I drive a car and wanted a parking inside the building but they were limited and all taken

Comfortable, convenient, classy Candleriggs
Candleriggs is nicely designed with good communal facilities and a gym. It is modern and well run by the management team. The management team works hard to create a sense of community through various activities and events, catering to a wide range of interests.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
It's convenient for shops, transport and entertainment. There is a bus stop outside. All stations are 5 to 10 mins walk. Many restaurants have a discount for Candlerigg residents. It's on a main road in the center so traffic noise is audible with windows open.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
We haven't raised any issues or problems with the management team.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
The organization of quizzes and other activities and events.
