Accessed along a bridleway, this cottage occupies a truly delightful setting overlooking the Slad valley. Over 200 years old the property started life as a very modest 2-up, 2-down it has been extended several times over the years and now offers generous and versatile accommodation. The door from the parking leads to the middle floor which offers a bedroom, a snug, a large family bathroom with a free-standing bath and corner shower enclosure and a laundry/boiler room. On the floor below there is a fitted kitchen that opens to a dining room and on to another bedroom (doubling up as an office) with a store room accessible from the garden. The top floor, has two further bedrooms, one of which also has an en suite shower room.

Outside

A paved terrace runs across the front of the house with a pergola to one end providing the ideal setting for evening entertaining as the sun sets across the valley. Within the gardens are the remains of another building thought possibly to have been the local bakery in times gone by.

To the side of the house there is an area for off road parking. The bridleway leading to Yew Tree Cottage has an acute turn of the lane and is most easily accessed from Catswood Lane (Bisley) direction rather than Knapp Lane (Slad).

Situation

Elcombe is a delightful hamlet in the Slad Valley to the North of Stroud. Slad is famous for being the home (and final resting place) of author Laurie Lee who wrote Cider With Rosie based on his childhood in the village. In fact, the Laurie Lee Wildlife Way circular walk passes directly alongside the cottage. Village life is focussed around the Parish Church and the Woolpack public house. The surrounding towns provide a comprehensive range of social, recreational and retail amenities to suit all tastes. Education options in the area are strong in both the private and state sectors with independent schools including Kings School in Gloucester, Wycliffe College and Beaudesert Park School in Stroud and Cheltenham College and Dean Close in Cheltenham whilst there are Grammar schools in Stroud, Gloucester and Cheltenham.
