Thornfleet is believed to date back to the 15th century, however is not listed. With later additions, the cottage is in good condition and has pretty front and rear gardens, ample parking and garaging.

Exposed studwork separates the hall from a cosy sitting room with exposed timbers and a central fireplace. The galleried landing has exposed timbers, storage cupboards and recess space and provides access to all rooms. The principal bedroom is at the front and enjoys views over the front garden and across the countryside towards Wivenhoe. Along one wall is a range of built in wardrobes including drawers whilst along another wall is a chest box for storage. The second bedroom is also at the front with a bay picture window with delightful views over the roman river valley. The room also has a number of exposed timbers. The third double bedroom is by far the most unique with a dual aspect and useful storage cupboard, it also has bespoke curved steps up to a mezzanine level where there is currently a bed and leaded light triangular window. The final fourth bedroom is approached through a low door to a delightful room with exposed timbers, shelving and window overlooking the rear gardens.

Finally on the first floor is the main bathroom with a panelled bath with independent shower above, pedestal wash basin and toilet. The room has some exposed timbers and two useful storage cupboards whilst at one end of the room is the airing cupboard.

Outside
The cottage is well screened from Church Road by mature hedging with pedestrian gate and pathway leading through the front gardens to the main entrance. The path is flanked on either side by lawns with well stocked flower and shrub borders. The garden is enclosed to the side by hedging which beyond is a long vehicular drive that leads down to the garaging 16’1” x 14’5”. A gate leads through to the rear gardens which have a patio terrace with space for table and chairs leading out on to lawns which are interspersed with shrubs and fruit trees forming a delightful setting for the cottage.


Location

The village of Fingringhoe is found to the south of Colchester and lies on the banks of where the Roman River joins the Colne. The area is surrounded by countryside and includes a nature reserve. At the centre of the village and walking distance of the cottage is a fine church, primary school and popular public house/restaurant. Colchester is only a few miles away with a vast array of retail parks and supermarkets complimenting the city centre. Colchester has educational facilities from nursery through to sixth form and a university. For the commuter there are two railway stations with services that go through to London Liverpool Street. Whilst Fingringhoe, for the road user, is a ‘no through village’ heading back to the Mersea Road gives access to the island of Mersea with its regatta and sailing facilities and coastal walks.
