The property is in a traditional village of the municipality Apokoronas. It is an old, stone, ground floor building, which was housing the primary school of the village from the time of its construction until the middle of the last century. Since then it has been abandoned and today requires repair in order to become functional again. The wider area is protected by the European Natura 2000 and is ideal for nature lovers as it offers options for hiking or other activities in nature. The village has mainly traditional stone houses while it is surrounded by olive groves, cypress forests as well as many of the ancient paths that connected the surrounding villages in the past. The surrounding villages are also extremely picturesque. The nearby Fres is the most interesting of them as it has, among other things, many traditional taverns as well as beautiful paved squares, where you can enjoy your coffee. For everything else, you can go to Vryses, a small town at 10 minutes' drive, where you will find many shops and services. The center of Chania is about 35 minutes' drive away while in the same amount of time you can go to the center of Rethymnon. The international airport of the prefecture is also about 45 minutes away. The building combines history and several elements of local architecture, which if you highlight them properly will have an excellent final result.
