Description

Most charming listed Grade II stone house with mature level garden backing onto open country with views in this peaceful, desirable hamlet.

Description

Eden Close is a most attractive and prominent stone village house, thought to have been built around 1600 and likely to have once been three separate cottages. The property has accommodation arranged over two floors with some attractive period features having been retained. From the front parking area, an attractive old front door provides access to an entrance hall with wood parquet floor and some fine old ceiling beams and fireplace, as well as a staircase to the first floor, a cloakroom and utility room. From here there is access to a sitting room, with fireplace and double doors to the garden. Across the hall is an elegant dining room, also with double doors to the garden. Beyond here is the study or snug, with attractive old exposed ceiling beam and a fireplace. The kitchen is situated in an extension to the original house, to the south. A good size room and with double doors onto a rear terrace. On the first floor is a spacious landing, four double bedrooms and a single bedroom, a bathroom and a shower room (large enough for a bath to be fitted).

Outside
The gardens at Eden Close are particularly lovely and benefit from glorious views south over open country. To the front an in and out driveway provides access, parking for several cars and there is a single garage, adjacent to which there is side access to the rear. There is a level lawn and a mature hedge encloses the front garden. Immediately to the rear of the house is a stone terrace facing south and the rear elevation of the house is adorned with mature climbing plants including a fine old rose, climbing its way to the eaves. The gardens fan out to the rear boundary which backs onto farmland providing lovely, long range country views. The gardens are mature and extremely well stocked with mature shrubs and borders, providing year round colour and interest. There are some attractive mature trees providing amenity and shelter and towards the rear of the plot is a swimming pool, attractively surrounded by an area of lawn, mature hedge, shrubs and trees.

Location

Eden Close is situated in the attractive Hamlet of Stalbridge Weston, about 1.5 miles from the popular town of Stalbridge which has an excellent variety of amenities including the popular independent Dike’s supermarket, pubs, church, petrol station, community library, primary schools, doctors, post office and butchers.

Other villages of note in the area include Stourton Caundle (1 mile) with the Trooper Inn pub and Templecombe with a mainline railway station to London Waterloo.

Sherborne, Shaftesbury, Wincanton, Castle Cary and Bruton all provide a further good variety of shopping, educational, recreational and cultural facilities.

There are good transport links in the area which as well as the train include the A303 which can be joined at Wincanton.

Independent schools include Canford, Bryanston, Milton Abbey. Clayesmore, Sherborne School for Girls, Sherborne School for Boys, Sherborne Preparatory School, Hazlegrove and Port Regis, as well as good state schools at Sherborne and Gillingham.

Sporting facilities in the area include golf at Sherborne, horse racing at Wincanton, Exeter and Bath and water sports can be enjoyed either on Sutton Bingham Reservoir to the south near Yeovil or on the Dorset coastline at Weymouth Bay and Poole Harbour.
