Description

Offers in excess of £725000

The property comprises a six bedroom detached house set over three levels which was built in circa 1785. The house is rich in Scottish history, being included in the National Record of the Historic Environment due to its larger site forming part of the beginning of the famous Massacre of Glencoe on 13th February 1692. The property was inhabited by the direct descendent of the Clan Chief MacDonald, Ellen Burns Macdonald, from the 1860s to the 1880s. The house and parts of the larger estate began to be sold off in the early 20th century and the house became the estate office and local dairy for a time. Acquired by the current owners in the early 2000s and refurbished with quality fixtures and fittings in line with the traditional nature of the property, the house has operated as a family residence with popular self-catering cottage since then, with scope for additional hospitality development (STP). The property benefits from having an elevated site overlooking Loch Leven and Glencoe and sits adjacent Glencoe House hotel and the famous Glencoe Lochan Lochan and trails.

Widely regarded as Scotland's most iconic Highland landscape, Glencoe is a dramatic glacial valley famed for its towering mountains, breathtaking scenery, and fascinating history. Formed by ancient volcanic activity and later sculpted by glaciers, the glen offers some of the most awe-inspiring natural scenery in the United Kingdom. The property is within walking distance of Glencoe village centre and Ballachulish where there are various shops and a primary school. There are direct coach links to Glasgow airport and the city centre and Glencoe is a 30-minute drive to the town of Fort William with rail connections north and south.
