Description

Henmore House is a romantic Grade II listed period house, located on Sparrow Hill Way, just a short drive to upmarket Wedmore and within easy reach of miles of beautiful Somerset countryside.

Constructed in the early 19th century this fine Victorian villa has an alluring symmetrical façade and displays much of the original character of the era throughout the property. Approached to the front by a delightful gated pathway the property is framed by a superb established front garden packed with an abundance of colourful flora and fauna. Entering the house under a pretty decorative porch, you continue into an impressive entrance hallway which gives you a wonderful first impression, with its graceful arched stained glass window to the rear immediately capturing your eye. There is a handy ground floor cloakroom and doors to all the principal reception rooms.

To the left of the hallway lies the first of two linked reception rooms, a beautifully proportioned drawing room complete with a classic 16-pane sash window to the front, and a handsome marble fireplace which has been updated with a woodburning stove in recent years. There are also decorative features such as dado and picture rails, features that resonate throughout the house and add to the property's appeal. To the rear of the drawing room a square archway leads you through into the music room, another captivating room that overlooks the rear garden.

To the opposite side of the hallway you will find two further reception rooms, one an impressive dining room which has a delightful southerly aspect and another majestic period fireplace, and the other a lovely drawing room/library with fitted bookshelves, fireplace and rear facing window. From here just a few shallow steps descend to the true heart of the home, the kitchen/breakfast room, immediately appealing owing to its fantastic dual aspect; your eyes are drawn towards its beautiful inglenook fireplace housing an oil fired Aga, along with another remnant of the past in the form of an original cast iron bread oven. The kitchen itself is well fitted with a range of traditional shaker style units, along with a beautiful flagstone floor and French doors that lead out to discrete sun terrace. There is plenty of space for a good sized breakfast/dining table as well as a Welsh dresser and larder unit. Above the fireplace an inscription in Latin reads 'Pax Domini Huic Domui' which translates in English to '"Peace of the Lord be upon this house'', a fitting tribute to such a homely and cherished family house. To the rear of the kitchen you will find a handy utility room which is equipped with provision for white goods, which also houses the property's oil boiler, and has a door leading out to the garden.

Moving onto the first floor you will find four bedrooms and the family bathroom arranged off a delightful landing area. To the front of the property there are two near identical sized double bedrooms which look out to the southerly front aspect of the house; both rooms feature attractive period fireplaces and delightful 16-pane sash windows. Between the two principal bedrooms lies a forth single bedroom/cot room, which is currently utilised as a walk-in dressing room but is perfectly adequate for a young child, or indeed as a home office. To the rear of the house sits another good sized double bedroom, which arguably has the best views from any room in the house, along with a spacious family bathroom, fitted with a white three piece suite.

There is a good sized attic accessed off the first floor landing area as well as a separate cloakroom with a shower cubicle.

Outside, as previously mentioned, there is a gorgeous flower filled front garden which is enclosed by a mixture of smart wooden fencing or the original stone boundary wall. There is a pretty sun terrace and gated access to either side of the house. To the rear of the property there are large wooden gates giving access to a sweeping gravelled driveway that leads to an attached 26' tandem garage. Within the rear garden there are areas of lawn, raised vegetable beds (in need of some care and attention) and even an old piggery.

What we love about the property ... Henmore House is a truly special house that has been much been a much-loved family home for many generations, now brought to the market with no onward chain complications - a wonderful opportunity to purchase a little piece of Somerset history!
