My honest review of the oaks bungalows.
I don't really have anything to give any input to on this, everything is top notch, only thing i could maybe say is that where my front grass is meant to be is mainly just bare dirt, which seems to be sunk down into a bit of a hole, I have mentioned this to my manager and he has said he would have it sorted, but nothing as yet, only reason im mentioning this is because I would like to put a sitting bench out the front, also I have no bins at all, because the bungalow hasn't been registered with the council etc as this bungalow was used as the company office i believe, I cant get my council tax etc sorted out either because of this, so I know this is maybe not a big deal but it has been causing me problems trying to get letters etc as well as the post code and address doesn't come up on any website, but appart from that I am really happy right now. Thanks.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
I have absolutely no bad reviews to give about this area, the shops are all great, co-op, butchers, bakers, hairdressers, post office, dentist, doctors,chemist, and other shops close at hand, I haven't tried the pubs yet, but its on my list, parking is good, not sure about public transport as I use my car, overall its a very quiet peaceful area, just what I was looking for.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Only thing i can really respond to here is about my bins as I don't have any, this is because this bungalow was used as an office by the manager, and it has not yet been registered on the council site yet, so I cant get my council tax or my bins until this has been sorted, thanks

Well appointed bungalow but potential parking issues.
The location is nice and rural with lots of trees in view (oaks) and there is a ten minute walk down into the village which has a good range of shops and services.
The level of fittings in the bungalow is excellent especially the kitchen with a full range of white goods including a dish washer. The bathroom however is somewhat spartan although a mirror was retrospectively fitted. There is however no shaver/ electric tooth brush socket. There is a very smart well designed mirrored fitted wardrobe in the main bedroom.
The patio which is south facing is ideal for growing a few plants in pots and can accommodate a garden bench and is a sun trap! There are solar panels on this side although information on usage etc has been somewhat lacking.
The biggest issue though must be availability of parking. When we first visited the show bungalow we noted that it and the nearby bungalows and houses had two “driveways” which is more than adequate. The location we are at was still a building site. Now completed we are aware that of the houses opposite, only a few have driveways and the bungalows have none with only a meagre “garden” area in front with very questionable planting. There are a handful of block paved parking areas but as these are limited I can foresee issues in the future when all the currently empty properties are occupied. The road at our location is quite circuitous and not really suitable for parking without causing issues for bin collections, deliveries etc. It is also noted that several of the houses with a drive are actually two car families who decant into the other parking areas.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
In our latter years we were looking to downsize to a two bedroom bungalow (no stairs!). Most of the nearby affordable for sale bungalows were old style and required a lot of expensive work whereas other, more modern ones, had a price to match. We decided to look at new build, long term rental solution and visited the show bungalow at The Oaks a year gone November.
How has the building management responded to any problems or issues you have raised:
Reporting via web easy with provision to add photos. Had a couple of new build issues one was completely resolved but other was only a cheap work around solution. Feel that there is an element of interpretation in actioning of reported issues.
Please share one thing (or more) which you wish you had known before you moved in:
Inadequate parking* - especially for older residents with some associated mobility problems.
* potential to worsen when all properties are occupied.

Oaks by name and nature
I'm not sure what you mean by 'services' - it is a housing development and has no 'services'. Unless you mean energy supplies, broadband etc, all of which are fine. The estate will be attractive when it is completed, as the planted trees mature and garden areas get established. Of course, as the name implies, we are surrounded by beautiful oak trees which attracts birds and wildlife.
Please tell us about the good and bad aspects of living in your local area:
We lived in Esh Winning before moving into our Placefirst bungalow so were familiar with the area. It is a convenient place to live just 15 minutes from Durham City and surrounded by beautiful walks in countryside. Esh Winning is really a big village and has the services you would expect - a Coop, a couple of take aways, hairdressers etc. Big supermarkets are only like ten minutes away. The site is still in development so you are living on a building site, a bit messy and noisy but we know that is temporary and all the guys on site are great - helpful and polite. Parking is a challenge I'm not going to lie - I have no idea why we simply can't have one allocated bay per house. If you have more than one car that is your problem but it is usually a case of first come first served which can be difficult as we have a disabled badge on the car.

Urgent problems have been dealt with quickly, less urgent ones not so much.

I wish I'd known parking would be such a challenge.

Fab place to live
The development is coming along fabulous. It will look stunning when finished. The only complaint I have is the many diggers / tractors in and out the development all day but that won’t be forever and will be fab when done. The building management is also great and everything is acted up straight away

Excellent for families.
Development is lovely, and almost at completion. Building management is excellent, nothing is enough for Dave and quick responses to maintenance, if required.
