Description
Internal Accommodation
Originally forming part of the Conigre Estate, 2 Conigre Cottages was built in 1908 and has since been thoughtfully extended and comprehensively renovated to create a beautifully balanced family home. The current owners have undertaken an extensive programme of improvement, combining carefully preserved period character with high-quality contemporary finishes while respecting the property's heritage.
The accommodation offers a series of well-proportioned reception rooms that enjoy attractive views across the gardens. The sitting / dining room provides a welcoming space in which to relax and entertain, centred around a Stoneways wood-burning stove and retaining much of the character expected from a property of this age. In the warmer months, French doors open out onto the covered garden room creating another fabulous indoor/outdoor entertaining space.
Refitted within the last year, the extended kitchen has been finished to high standard. The fitted cabinetry is complemented by a combination of solid oak and Carrara Slab Tech worktops alongside two integrated under counter fridges and ample space for fitted appliances.
Leading directly from the kitchen, the utility room provides further storage and work surfaces, together with a large, shelved pantry, refitted cloakroom and direct access to both the garden and the integral garage.
The first floor provides well-balanced bedroom accommodation, with each room enjoying its own individual outlook across the surrounding gardens and countryside.
The principal suite includes a dedicated dressing room with extensive fitted storage and a beautifully appointed en-suite bathroom. A freestanding roll-top bath takes centre stage, complemented by twin wash basins.
The remaining bedrooms are generously proportioned and are served by a contemporary family wet room.
Outside
The south facing gardens feature a verity of stone terraces and covered seating areas to provide excellent spaces for outdoor dining and entertaining, with the rear of the garden enjoying a peaceful outlook over the surrounding countryside.
A traditional greenhouse sits within the productive garden, providing excellent space for growing fruit, vegetables and seasonal plants. Alongside, a handcrafted brick pizza oven creates a focal point for summer entertaining, perfectly suited to relaxed evenings with family and friends.
A particular feature of the property is its excellent range of outbuildings, offering exceptional flexibility for modern living.
There are two separate insulated office spaces, one benefitting from underfloor heating, providing comfortable accommodation throughout the year for those working from home.
Beyond this is a substantial soundproofed workshop, offering excellent space for a wide variety of hobbies or creative pursuits. Adjoining the workshop is a separate gym, adding further versatility to an already impressive collection of ancillary buildings.
Seller Insight:
What is your favourite room of the house and why?
Without question, the garden room. It beautifully blurs the line between indoors and out, making you feel connected to the garden throughout the year. I love how the light changes with the seasons and even throughout the day. It’s where I enjoy my first coffee each morning and, in the evening, unwind with a glass of wine while watching the garden settle for the night and the bees make their final visits.
Who do you think would be the ideal next owner?
Someone looking for the flexibility of modern living. The house works equally well for professionals who commute, those who work from home, or anyone wanting generous, adaptable living space with an attractive, easy-to-maintain garden. It has the rare ability to adapt to different stages of life.
What do you love most about the house and why?
What I’ve loved most is how Conigre Cottage has evolved alongside my lifestyle. It supported the demands of an international career with effortless commuting yet has also become a peaceful sanctuary to slow down, relax and enjoy home. It has always felt like a house that grows with you.
What do you love about the local community?
The balance is wonderful. There are excellent village pubs, beautiful countryside walks straight from the doorstep, and the cultural and shopping attractions of Bath are just a short drive away. It offers the best of village life without feeling remote.
How easy is it to commute from here?
Exceptionally easy. There are excellent rail connections to London, quick access to the M4, and both Bristol and Heathrow airports are within convenient reach, making national and international travel remarkably straightforward.
What made you choose this property over others that were available at the time?
It was the combination of location, lifestyle and flexibility. The excellent transport links suited my international business travel, while the property itself offered generous, adaptable accommodation that could evolve as my needs changed. It immediately felt like a home with long-term potential rather than simply somewhere to live.
