The Location.

Steeped in history, Faugères is a picturesque medieval village in the Haut
Languedoc National Park, 28 km north of Béziers, with good road links
throughout the region and Mediterranean coast.

The stunning local scenery in the foothills of the Espinouse and Caroux, with
views down to The Mediterranean, is dominated by vineyards, and the village
and seven surrounding communes comprise the Apellation d'Origine Protégée
of Faugères, renowned internationally.

There is an annual Fête du Vin when the local vignerons host tastings alongside
local produce but most vignerons host wine tastings for the casual visitor. There
are also seasonal cherry, chestnut and garden festivals.

The well-preserved, wild and sparsely populated landscapes attract visitors keen
on “green tourism”.  The region’s remarkable architectural and natural heritage
invites ramblers and cyclists to discover its châteaux, mills, dry stone huts and
walls where oak woods give way to rockrose blossom and hillside vineyards
(Route Vigneronne). There are many interesting walks in and around the village,
especially to the 16th century windmills or through the vineyards with their
wonderful scenery, wild flowers and butterflies.

Notwithstanding its well-preserved medieval architecture with narrow, winding
streets, Faugères thrives and continues to develop. There is a village hall with a
recently-built Mairie, postal service and school. At top of the village are a
boulangerie, restaurant/wine bar selling wines of the appellation, charcuterie
and a petrol station. It's a 15-minute drive to large supermarkets and further
afield are famous weekly markets at Pézenas and Bédarieux
