Property Insight
A handsome detached period home built in the early 20th century for RAF lieutenants and their families, this Grade II listed house sits behind mature hedging on a generous, secluded plot backing onto open countryside and the neighbouring playing field, in the heart of aviation-heritage Duxford. Extending to just over 2,000 sq ft across two floors, with tall chimney stacks, red-brick elevations and period sash windows, it carries genuine character while offering the space a growing family needs. The setting is a particular strength: a deep wraparound garden, a large glazed garden room opening straight onto the terrace, and countryside beyond the boundary.
The reception space is the standout. A spacious dual-aspect lounge runs the depth of the house at nearly 27 feet, with a wood-burning stove set on a stone hearth, a garden-facing bay, and room enough to take in both a formal seating area and a grand piano. From here the home flows into a characterful kitchen/breakfast room fitted with shaker-style units, timber worktops and a central island with breakfast seating, alongside a range cooker, a walk-in pantry and a separate utility. Adjoining is the conservatory/dining room, a bright glazed space with French doors framing the garden, ideal for everyday family meals and entertaining alike.
Upstairs are four bedrooms, including a generous principal at over 20 feet with its own en-suite shower room, served by a family bathroom with both bath and separate shower. Character continues throughout, from stripped floorboards to the period proportions of the rooms. Outside, the mature grounds wrap the house with lawn, established planting and two paved terraces for sitting out, while a gravel driveway provides ample off-road parking. A rare period home in one of South Cambridgeshire's most characterful villages.

Location – Duxford
Duxford is a pretty village in Cambridgeshire, formed on the banks of the River Cam, 10 miles south of Cambridge, 6 miles east of Royston and 8 miles from Saffron Walden. It is known for its aviation heritage: the Imperial War Museum draws visitors from around the world with an impressive collection of iconic warplanes, vintage aircraft and helicopters, and offers real insight into the pivotal role Duxford played during the Second World War. The village has two notable churches, St John's and St Peter's, both showing Norman craftsmanship and dating from the 11th Century. There are two pubs, John Barleycorn and The Plough, and a busy calendar including the Advent Market, the annual soapbox derby in September, the Women's Institute, drama, bowls, football, tennis, scouts and a community choir. There is a C of E primary school with breakfast and after-school clubs, an outstanding-rated pre-school, and a community centre housing Cafe 19. Whittlesford Parkway station is a mile away and Stansted airport 30 minutes.
