Description

DESCRIPTION
Whitehouse is an exceptional detached Art Deco residence occupying an elevated position within one of Stranraer’s most desirable residential addresses. Combining distinctive period architecture with sympathetic contemporary enhancements, the property has been meticulously renovated to create a remarkable family home that successfully balances original character with modern living.
The striking façade is complemented by many beautifully preserved Art Deco features, including the original stained-glass entrance door, ornate fireplaces and elegant period detailing, all of which reflect the home’s architectural heritage. A thoughtfully designed contemporary extension has enhanced the accommodation, creating light-filled living spaces that frame the outstanding coastal views.
Extending to approximately 5,900 sq ft, the accommodation is arranged over two floors and has been designed with both family life and entertaining in mind. At the heart of the home is a superb open-plan dining kitchen and family room, combining bespoke contemporary finishes with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. The range cooker has a gas hob and electric ovens, and the integrated dishwasher and fridge/freezer will remain in situ. A separate utility and laundry room provides practical everyday convenience, while the formal drawing room and sitting room each feature impressive original Art Deco fireplaces with working open fires.
The five generously proportioned double bedrooms all benefit from en-suite facilities. The principal bedroom suite is particularly impressive, comprising a dressing room and a luxurious bathroom with a Jacuzzi-style bath and separate shower.
Occupying an enviable position on the edge of the town, Whitehouse offers a rare combination of privacy and accessibility. The property enjoys immediate access to Stranraer’s excellent range of amenities while commanding panoramic views across the surrounding coastline and countryside, creating a wonderful sense of space more usually associated with a rural setting.

The current owner is constructing a separate dwelling within part of the original grounds. The area to be retained is clearly identified on the site plan and is shaded blue. The sale will therefore comprise the house and the remaining grounds as shown within the sales particulars. SITUATION
Whitehouse is situated in an elevated position within the town of Stranraer enjoying breath-taking views over Loch Ryan, a Scottish sea loch which acts as an important natural harbour for shipping, providing calm waters for ferries operating between Scotland and Northern Ireland. Stranraer has a marina located at the southern end of Loch Ryan, and hosts an annual Oyster Festival annually to promote the wonderful Loch Ryan oysters and other local food and drink. The Loch also hosts major sporting events including the Skiffie Worlds, and more recently the Scottish Fin and Foil wind surfing open championship.
The town benefits from a secondary school, primary schools, hospital (Galloway Community Hospital), supermarkets, shops, offices, hotels, restaurants, and the Ryan Leisure Centre and Theatre.

Both curling and horse riding are very popular in the area, nearby Stranraer & District Riding Club offers training and holds regular events, and curling is available at the North West Castle, Stranraer. There are also numerous golf courses nearby including Stranraer Golf Club at Creachmore, Dunskey at Portpatrick and is only 35 miles to the famous Turnberry Golf Club.
