Some homes are difficult to put into words... and this is definitely one of them.
Sitting proudly on the banks of the River Tyne within an iconic converted warehouse dating back to 1871, this incredible duplex penthouse offers a lifestyle that's every bit as special as the home itself. Originally built as a warehouse for the High Brewery, it's a building that's instantly recognisable, and opportunities to own one of its penthouses don't come around very often.
The current owners have loved every minute of living here since the day the conversion was completed almost 25 years ago, and it's easy to see why.
We could try to describe the view... but we'd never quite do it justice. From your private roof terrace, you can watch the sun rise over the mouth of the Tyne, enjoy an evening drink as the sun sets, or sit back and watch everything from fishing boats to cruise ships making their way out to sea. It's a space that's seen many parties, celebrations and unforgettable evenings over the years, and one that's brought family and friends together time and time again.
Step inside and the apartment has just as much character as the building itself. The open plan living space is full of charm, with beautiful original beams creating a warm, welcoming feel while still offering plenty of room for entertaining. Whether it's a cosy night in or a house full of guests, it's a space that just works.
The principal bedroom has one of the best spots in the apartment, perfectly positioned to make the most of those incredible river views. Waking up to the Tyne each morning is something I don't think you'd ever get bored of, and the en suite adds that extra bit of luxury.
Upstairs, you'll find two further double bedrooms, additional bathrooms, a handy home office space and more storage than you'd ever expect from an apartment. There's even a dedicated sauna room, perfect for unwinding after entertaining friends on the terrace or simply escaping for a bit of peace and quiet.
And then there's the location.
The North Shields Ferry is quite literally on your doorstep if you fancy popping across the river to South Shields, but no need to really when Tynemouth's award-winning beaches, cafés, bars and independent shops are just a short drive away. Even closer to home is the ever-popular Fish Quay, where you'll be spoilt for choice with fantastic restaurants, cosy pubs, independent coffee shops and some of the best seafood in the North East.
If walking isn't on the agenda, you'll also have secure parking, your own garage, and lift access straight to the fourth floor, making day-to-day living as practical as it is impressive.
Homes like this are incredibly hard to find. The history, the views, the space, the terrace and the location all come together to create something genuinely unique. It's easy to see why the current owners have called it home for so many years, and now it's ready for someone else to make new memories here.
Huge Buying Incentive:
First two years' service charge included in the sale price, making this an even more attractive opportunity to own one of North Tyneside's most iconic homes.
Comments from the owners:
'Moving into the penthouse in December 2002 was one of the best times of our lives, our first morning we woke to simply the most amazing sunrise, sitting in the conservatory we watched as the local ferry taking people to work and the huge ferry passed taking people to Amsterdam. In the decades living here we had the opportunity to entertain our family, friends and neighbours with some unforgettable summer nights and fantastic entertainment 150 people and live music on our roof terrace are nights you don’t forget.
We never stopped loving the reaction of people coming into our apartment and seeing the views.
It’s been a happy home, it’s been a lucky home and it’s been a big decision to decide to sell this amazing property, however entering retirement we feel it’s now the time to downsize and maybe do some travelling.
The building is unique and a lovely place to live with lovely neighbours, I’m sure the new owners will enjoy the property for as long as we did.
I guess what we will miss the most is the summers like this year, sitting on the roof terrace in the hot sun with that cool breeze and a cold drink, eating outside and then our evenings in the hot tub as the sun goes down and the most amazing night sky takes over, special times and special memories in a very special place.'
