Description
Occupying a coveted top-floor position within Old School Court, this distinctive one-bedroom apartment presents a wonderful opportunity to live at the heart of one of Norfolk’s most historic market towns.
Old School Court is a striking Grade II Listed Building, set within a private gated enclave in the Conservation Area, giving the property a wonderful sense of character and architectural significance. Positioned just off King Street, the building forms part of the historic fabric of central King’s Lynn and offers an especially appealing setting for those who value individuality, heritage and a genuine sense of place.
Inside, the apartment is notably generous, with the accommodation arranged around a spacious entrance hall which is large enough to double as a study or home-working area. From here, the accommodation flows into a generously proportioned bedroom with fitted furniture, a luxuriously appointed bathroom, an inviting sitting room and a separate kitchen/dining room. Altogether, the scale and versatility of the accommodation set it apart from many more conventional one-bedroom apartments.
Its position on the top floor brings an added sense of privacy, while the property also benefits from allocated parking for one vehicle - a particularly valuable advantage in such a central town location.
The setting is an important part of the appeal. Step outside and the historic streets of King’s Lynn unfold around you, with independent shops, cafés, restaurants, the town centre and waterfront all within easy reach. The railway station is also conveniently accessible, making the apartment equally well suited to those seeking a stylish permanent home, a Norfolk base or a comfortable lock-up-and-leave for those who travel regularly. There is something particularly appealing about being able to enjoy the town on foot - wandering through its historic streets, heading towards the quayside or simply making the most of having everyday amenities close at hand.
KING’S LYNN
Perched on the banks of the River Ouse, King’s Lynn has been a centre of trade and industry since the Middle Ages, and its rich history is reflected in the many beautiful buildings which still line the historic quarter.
Originally named Bishop’s Lynn, during the reign of Henry VIII the town was surrendered to the crown and took the name King’s Lynn. During the 14th century, Lynn was England’s most important port, dominated by the Hanseatic League. Although the growth of London later eroded the port’s importance, ship-building and fishing became prominent industries, the latter of which is documented at True’s Yard Museum.
With more than 400 listed buildings, two warehouses – Hanse House and Marriott’s Warehouse – still stand in the centre of the town, along with King’s Lynn Minster and Custom House. These have appeared as stars of the screen in numerous period dramas and it’s not unusual to spot a camera crew and cast on location.
King Street, which runs from Tuesday Market Place to the Custom House was once known as ‘Stockfish Row’ for the number of fish merchants that lived there, With a listed building every 26ft, Sir John Betjeman described it as one of the finest walks in England. In 1845, there were at least ten pubs on this street alone, and although these have faded away a relatively new arrival is the WhataHoot distillery with its gin school and handmade spirits.
With Cambridge, Peterborough and Norwich all within an hour’s reach and a direct rail line into London King’s Cross arriving in the capital in just 1 hour 40 minutes, King’s Lynn continues to attract a growing number of professionals seeking an easy commuter route.
