Description
This one isn’t trying to be something it’s not.
It’s a straightforward modern detached house. The sort of place that has quietly got on with life for years, doing exactly what it was bought to do. It has been a successful buy-to-let investment, it’s clean, tidy and perfectly liveable… but let’s not pretend it’s fresh out of an interior design magazine.
If you’re looking for somebody else’s dream kitchen and somebody else’s taste in flooring, this probably isn’t your house.
If, however, you’d rather spend your money creating something that’s unmistakably yours, you’ve just found a rather good blank canvas.
And then there’s Sweyn Road.
Walk down to the end of the road and you’re pretty much straight onto the cliff top and promenade, with the sea opening up in front of you and easy access down to the beaches and bays that make this stretch of Margate and Cliftonville so bloody good.
The Lido is close by, the coastline is on your doorstep, and when the mood takes you, Old Town is comfortably within staggering distance. Give it 10 or 15 minutes walking along the top of the seafront and you’re there. No car. No parking drama. Just a genuinely lovely coastal walk into one of Kent’s most talked-about little corners.
A couple of weekends ago, the Geek team did something we’d somehow never done in over forty years of living here. We actually went out for a proper evening in Cliftonville.
Good food. Great atmosphere. Friendly people. Independent bars. A real buzz.
And we came away wondering whether we’d been ignoring one of Thanet’s best-kept secrets.
Everyone talks about Margate’s rise, but you can feel that energy continuing along the coast now, and Cliftonville has developed a personality all of its own. Less polished, perhaps. More character. More independent. A little rougher around the edges in places — and, frankly, all the more interesting for it.
That’s the beauty of living here. You’ve got Cliftonville around you, Margate just along the seafront, the beaches practically at the end of the road, and Old Town close enough that walking home after dinner is entirely realistic.
So here you are.
A detached three-bedroom home with two bathrooms, off-street parking and a location that, in our opinion, is becoming more interesting by the year.
Yes, the house will reward someone with a bit of vision.
But when you’re starting with a detached home, parking, the coast at the end of the road and Margate Old Town a seaside stroll away… that’s not a bad place to begin.
