Description
Highfield House is a building probably dating to the 1930’s and is chalet in style with a good entrance hallway, the staircase to the first floor and a cloakroom and a drawing room with a fireplace and doors out to the garden. There is a dining room, family room and study and, at the back of the house, a kitchen/breakfast room with an oil fired Aga and a good range of storage cupboards, a utility area and a door to the rear garden. On the first floor there is a master bedroom suite, three further bedrooms, two family bathrooms and an en suite shower room.
There is scope to improve and extend the property. Planning permission was granted for both an extension of the house and, on appeal, for the construction of a double garage. Both Planning applications have now run out of time, but it is reasonable to expect that re-application would be successful.
There is a driveway with parking for half a dozen cars or so, lawns and shrubs and a lean-to on one side of the building and access on both sides and to the rear garden which faces west, with a terrace at the back of the house with a well established herbaceous and shrub border. There are various storage sheds and an established orchard which includes apple, pear, damson, plum and quince. The grounds are private and screened by trees and hedging. There is outside water and lighting.
Wellpond Green is an attractive East Hertfordshire hamlet set amongst mature woodland close to the village of Much Hadham which offers good village amenities, including primary school, village store, post office, riding centre and a public house. Standon offers a well regarded public house, a post office, general stores and bakery. The market town of Bishop's Stortford (approx 5 miles) provides a more comprehensive range of shopping, recreational and educational facilities including golf courses and swimming pool. There is access to the M11 (J8) at Bishop's Stortford, together with a mainline railway station with regular services to London (Liverpool St 35 minutes approx). A further mainline station is available at Hertford North with services to London (Moorgate approx 10 miles).
