Description

Tigh An Eas is in the crofting settlement of Heaste on the west coast of Skye, yet only four and a half miles from Broadford, the second-largest settlement on the island. The property is on an elevated site with spectacular views to the east towards Loch Hourn and the mainland, and to the south, taking in the sea-loch Loch Eishort and the Sleat Peninsula beyond. The Isle of Skye is the best known of the Inner Hebridean islands off the west coast of Scotland. Famous for its romantic, historical associations and magnificent landscape dominated by the Cuillin Mountains, the island is very popular attracting many tourists throughout the year as well as those who seek to enjoy a peaceful lifestyle in unspoilt and beautiful surroundings. This area with its many coastal and hill trails, small islands and inlets, makes an ideal location for walking, mountain biking, kayaking and sailing, and is rich in wildlife with otters, golden eagles, red deer and dolphins regularly spotted. Loch Eishort, with its stunning views to the Cuillin Mountains, is a popular anchorage for sailors and is a short walk from the house. Broadford has a good range of shops and facilities including, restaurants, a supermarket, a hospital and a primary school while a wider range of amenities and secondary schooling are available in Portree about thirty miles away. Inverness, about a 2 hours’ drive away, has all the facilities of a modern city including its airport with regular flights to the south and Europe.

Tigh An Eas, which translates to ‘house by the waterfall’, is adelightful property which has been under the same ownership for more than 40 years. Originally a traditional two-bedroom cottage, Tigh An Eas has been thoughtfully extended over the years to create a substantial home offering in excess of 200 sq m of accommodation spread across two floors. Although requiring a degree of modernisation the property has been well maintained by the current owners, with recent improvements including the installation of replacement windows in 2025 and the refurbishment of the electric Aga in 2026. The original cottage retains much of its character and charm, with exposed stonework and ceiling beams and the later extensions, that include a sunroom that links the original structure with the principal extension, feature unique commissioned etched glasswork by renowned sculptor Laurence Broderick. The principal extension accommodates three of the property’s five bedrooms, together with a useful home office which could easily serve as a sixth bedroom. The light filled, triple-aspect, first-floor sitting room has been carefully designed to take full advantage of the far reaching views to the surrounding countryside. Positioned beneath the sitting room is an integral garage, which could be converted into additional living accommodation subject to obtaining the necessary consents and permissions. Tigh An Eas offers the potential to be easily adapted to maximise both lifestyle and business opportunities.

The adjacent owner-occupied croft which extends to approximately 1.6 hectares (4.0 acres) may be available under separate negotiation.
