Description
A four bedroom stone-built cottage inside the Lake District National Park, reverse level, with a vaulted lounge and the living accommodation on the first floor. Sold fully furnished at £160,000.
Caldew 5 sits within one of the more characterful stone-built groups at Whitbarrow Village, a short drive from Keswick, where slate roofs, local stone and courtyard spaces give this part of the resort the feel of a Lakeland hamlet rather than a holiday development.
The layout is reverse level. Three of the four bedrooms and the bathroom sit on the ground floor, keeping the sleeping accommodation quiet and separate, with the living accommodation upstairs. For a group that works far better than one open-plan room.
Upstairs divides into two rooms. The lounge is the one that catches you, with a vaulted ceiling and painted truss, a wall of exposed random stone and a dressed sandstone pier left open in the corner. Sofas and armchairs for the whole party, a wall-mounted television, and a soft sage and neutral scheme with oak furniture against the bare stone. Next door, the kitchen diner is fitted in white with a dark worktop, an integrated dishwasher and fridge freezer, and a table that seats six.
Three of the bedrooms sit on the ground floor, among them a double and a twin, with a bathroom taking a full-size bath and shower over, and a storage cupboard off the hall. The fourth is a small single in a little annex off the first floor, tucked under a sloping ceiling with a skylight and original painted timber cupboard doors. It is the room the children will fight over.
Everything stays. The furniture, the kitchen, the linen and the soft furnishings are all included, so the cottage is ready to use from the day you get the keys.
On your doorstep
Whitbarrow Village sits inside the Lake District National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, with Blencathra rising directly ahead and Helvellyn, Fairfield and Dollywaggon Pike beyond.
On site, The Fellstone is the resort's lounge and restaurant, run by MasterChef finalist Kyle Greenwood. There is an indoor heated pool with a separate splash pool, jacuzzi, sauna and steam room, a gym fitted out with TechnoGym equipment, a games room and a cinema. Outside there is a children's play area, crazy golf, a putting green, frisbee golf, a giant chess board, a woodland walk and a duck pond. The resort is gated, has 24 hour security and is open 365 days of the year. Dogs are welcome.
Beyond the gates, Ullswater and Derwentwater are both close for boating and paddleboarding, and Aira Force is a short drive. Keswick is the local town, twelve miles away, with its markets, independent shops, cafés, restaurants and lakeside. The A66 and M6 are close by, and Penrith mainline station runs direct to London, Edinburgh and Glasgow.
