Description
Den of Ogil Reservoir is a true feat of Victorian engineering, designed by John Frederick Bateman in 1880, to supply water to the Royal Burgh of Forfar. The reservoir was decommissioned by Scottish Water in the 1980's and sold for private use in 2019.
This exceptional rural haven is truly magical, attracting an abundance of wildlife with the benefit of outline planning for an off grid cabin, planning reference 23/00523/FULL, granted in October 2024.
There are some beautiful viewpoints, picnic areas, woodland and core paths than run along the waterside. The reservoir is registered and regulated under the Reservoirs (Scotland) Act 2011 and therefore carries obligations set out by the Act. The property is affected by a risk of flooding according to current and future SEPA flood maps.
The boundaries are to be maintained in a stock proof condition at mutual expense with adjoining landowners. The subjects are sold together with and subject to all existing rights of way, servitudes, wayleaves and others whether contained in the Title Deeds or otherwise, and purchasers will be deemed as satisfied themselves in respect thereof.
Location
The site is accessed off a rural tarmac road, some 12 miles west of Brechin and 9 miles north of Forfar. The site is accessed via a locked gate, which is located via the following what3words location: nearest postcode is DD8 3UB but this takes you too far west.
