Description
Description
Willowhayne Farm once formed part of the larger Doghouse Farm, our clients purchasing the house and circa 11.6 acres in 1986. The house has warm Ham stone elevations under a slate roof and spacious accommodation arranged over two floors. The house is likely to date back to the 1900s but is not listed. To the front of the property is a stone porch with pitched roof, here the front door opens into a hall, with a family room with open fireplace and bookcase to one side and a dining room to the other. An extension was added in the 1970s on the southern side of the house, creating an additional cosy sitting room with exposed stone wall, fireplace and wood burning stove. An east and south facing kitchen also benefitted from enlargement as a result of the extension and has double doors out to a terrace overlooking the garden, lake and hills beyond. On the first floor, the addition to the house provides a splendid principal bedroom suite with Juliet balcony, dressing room and en suite bathroom. In addition there are four other double bedrooms, each with en suite shower rooms.
Outside
The house is approached via a no-through lane and resides in a glorious rural location amongst a small cluster of other dwellings, about 500m as the crow flies from the cliffs and the sea. The house faces in a westerly direction with the kitchen, sitting room, principal bedroom and main garden being on the southerly side of the property and taking in the glorious views towards Golden Cap. From the lane, to the north of the house is a private drive with parking for several cars, a lawn wraps around the rear of the house, with a mature hedge providing the boundary with the eastern paddock. To the front of the house is a level lawn, screened from the lane by a mature hedge. The main gardens are on the south side where another level area of lawn leads down to a small lake, with an attractive mature Willow tree on the boundary and the dramatic hill as the backdrop. Immediately to the rear of the house is a terrace from which to enjoy the view. Beyond that is another paddock which slopes gently up to a copse.
Location
Willowhayne Farm is situated at the end of Doghouse Lane, a no through road about 500m from Main Street which runs through the pretty village of Chideock in the Dorset National Landscape.
Chideock has a village post office and stores, two pubs and the fine parish Church of St Giles.
About ½ mile away is the coastal village of Seatown, on the Jurassic Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage site with Golden Cap, in the hands of the National Trust, forming its backdrop.
About three miles away is the attractive Georgian market town of Bridport with its regular street market, an excellent range of shops, restaurants and public houses together with supermarkets including Morrisons and Waitrose.
The charming town of Lyme Regis is about 7.6 miles with its picturesque harbour, sandy beaches and famous Cobb.
The County town of Dorchester is about eighteen miles. Axminster, with its mainline railway station to London Waterloo, is about 10.2 miles. Exeter airport is about one hour by car.
