Description

Whitedown Cottage is a very stylish period house which we understand dates from the 17th Century. Although the house is not listed, it is considered a property of Local Significance in West End.

As is to be expected with a property of this nature, there are many fine period features including exposed beams and an attractive fireplace with open fire in the sitting room.

The kitchen/breakfast room was built on the footprint of a previous kitchen and benefits from a superb, vaulted ceiling and has been comprehensively fitted with Shaker style units under a granite and American black walnut work surface. There is a Travertine floor throughout this room with two sets of doors leading out to the garden as well as a utility room and a useful larder.

At the other end of the house is the drawing room with doors leading out to the south facing terrace. Adjacent is the music room which currently houses a baby grand piano, off which is the home office.

From the reception hall/family room a staircase with painted panelled wall leads up to the first floor where there are five bedrooms, three of which are in the old part of the house. The principal bedroom is light and airy and benefits from a walk-through dressing room leading to the well fitted shower room.

The house is approached off the Bagshot Road into a parking area in front of a double and single garage. In turn, there are electric gates leading into the gravelled driveway with parking in front of the studio.

The terrace runs along the south of the house with a raised pond and a beautiful magnolia tree providing shelter from the sun. Close by is the tiled swimming pool with extensive terracing surrounding it and a play area behind. There is a large area suitable for seating at one end of the pool which affords wonderful views over the garden towards the house. The gardens at one end converge to a point where there is a small orchard of apple and pear trees.

Whitedown Cottage lies about 1.5 miles of Chobham High Street. This attractive village offers comprehensive day to day to shopping as well as good pubs, restaurants and a village school.

Woking to the east and Sunningdale to the north provide a further extensive range of shopping and recreational facilities.

Communications in the area are excellent with fast and frequent train services from Woking to London Waterloo taking approximately 23 minutes. Junction 11 of the M25 is approximately 7 miles away giving access to London, Heathrow and Gatwick airports as well as the national motorway network. Junction 3 of the M3 lies about 3 miles to the west.

Educational facilities in the vicinity are first class and give provision for children of all age groups. Close to hand is Cowarth Flexlands in Valley End and Gordons School further up Bagshot Road.

Sporting facilities in the area include racing at Ascot, Sandown, Epsom and Windsor; polo at Guards Polo Club at Smiths Lawn, Windsor and Ascot Park in Chobham. Golf is at Queenwood, Chobham, Sunningdale, Wentworth, Worplesdon, West Hill, Woking and Foxhills Country Club nearby.

The village is surrounded by beautiful countryside providing opportunities for excellent walking and riding including 1500 acres of Chobham Common (a National Nature Reserve), Windlesham Arboretum and Lightwater Country Park.
