Description
Some houses are about the kitchen. Some are about the postcode. This one is about the land.
Sitting where St Peter’s starts to blur into Kingsgate, this 1930s three-bedroom semi occupies the sort of plot that simply isn’t being made anymore.
And the garden is the story.
By our best estimate, it stretches to approximately 160ft — but even that doesn’t really explain how it feels when you’re standing in it. The properties beyond have similarly generous gardens, pushing the houses themselves so far into the distance that the whole outlook feels unusually open, green and private.
Compared with the tightly packed plots of most modern developments, it’s almost ridiculous.
Football goals. Dogs. Kids. Vegetable patches. A studio at the bottom. Or just an enormous amount of grass and a deckchair. There’s room here to think big.
The house itself is a classic 1930s semi: good proportions where you want them, three bedrooms, plenty of natural light and that reassuringly solid feel that has kept this style of house popular for generations. As was typical of the period, the kitchen, bathroom and third bedroom are more modest in scale.
The current owners would also be the first to say that the next chapter probably involves some updating. The décor may not be everybody’s taste and there’s certainly scope to introduce a more contemporary feel. Equally, that extraordinary garden has become rather more garden than they now need, and they’re actively looking for something a little easier to look after.
But paint colours can change.
A plot like this can’t.
The location makes an equally strong argument. North Foreland Golf Club is close enough that taking the clubs rather than the car suddenly seems perfectly reasonable. Joss Bay and Kingsgate are down the hill, Botany Bay is within walking distance, and Broadstairs itself can be reached on foot in around 15 minutes via the local cut-throughs.
You’re effectively sitting between Broadstairs, Kingsgate and Cliftonville, with the coastline never far away.
So yes, there are things the next owner may want to change.
But if your priority is finding a proper 1930s family house, in this part of Thanet, with an almost absurd amount of garden behind it…
we’d probably start with the things you can’t change.
The location.
And approximately 160 feet of garden.
