Description

Greater London Properties Presents

We are delighted to offer to market chain free this charming one-bedroom top-floor apartment with private roof terrace, superbly positioned on the sought-after Meard Street in the very heart of Soho.

This rare early 18th century street was initially developed by John Meard Junior, a Master Carpenter who worked on many great London churches, including St Paul's Cathedral with Sir Christopher Wren.

The Property

Extending to nearly 400 square feet of internal space, the apartment is full of character and has been cleverly arranged to maximize the space and light. Dating from 1732, the property is steeped in history and benefits to this day from many period features including beautiful vaulted ceilings, exposed oak beams, feature fireplaces and wooden flooring, creating a distinctive home that perfectly complements its historic Soho setting.

At the heart of the apartment is a generous open-plan kitchen and living area, measuring over 20ft in length and providing plenty of room for relaxing, dining and entertaining. The kitchen is neatly incorporated into the living space, while the vaulted ceiling and exposed beams add a wonderful sense of character and individuality.

The separate double bedroom is positioned away from the main reception space and continues the characterful feel of the apartment, while a well-appointed bathroom completes the internal accommodation.

A real highlight is the private terrace, – an increasingly rare feature for a home in such a central Soho location and an ideal spot for a morning coffee, outdoor dining or an evening drink.

Location and Transport

Situated on the top floor of a period building on Meard Street, the property enjoys an exceptional position in the heart of Soho. An incredible selection of restaurants, cafés, bars, theatres and independent shops can be found virtually on the doorstep, with Carnaby Street, Chinatown, Regent Street and the wider West End all within easy walking distance.

'What the Owner Says'
This flat has been in our family for almost 15 years, and over that time it has given us a wonderful way to experience one of the most special parts of London.

What first drew us to Meard Street was the rare combination of history, character and location. It is a remarkably peaceful Georgian street, tucked away in the heart of Soho, yet step outside and some of the best restaurants, theatres, bars and music venues in London are on your doorstep. One of our favourite evenings has always been dinner on Old Compton Street followed by jazz at Ronnie Scott’s, both just around the corner.

Soho has changed enormously since we bought the flat in 2012, not least with the arrival of the Elizabeth line nearby, but we love that it has retained its distinctive, slightly eccentric character. Meard Street captures that perfectly: one of London’s surviving Georgian streets, full of architectural detail and history, but surrounded by everything that makes modern Soho so exciting.

The flat itself has just as much character, with hardwood floors, exposed beams, rooflights and a fireplace. We’ll particularly miss cosy winter days by the fire and summer evenings eating outside on the garden terrace, which feels like a little oasis away from the bustle of Soho.

We have many happy memories here, and hope its next owner enjoys this very special corner of London as much as we have.
