Description
REF: JC0739 - Some houses are beautifully decorated. Some have fantastic living space. Others have bags of character. Every now and again, though, you come across one that manages to tick all three boxes, and this is most definitely one of them!
Dating back to around 1920, this is a home that proves you don't have to sacrifice character for modern living. The high ceilings and generous proportions are exactly what you'd hope for from a property of this era, but the interior is something else entirely. Bold colours, striking finishes, beautiful flooring and design choices that really shouldn't work as well as they do, but absolutely do. If your idea of interior design is fifty shades of beige, you might need a little sit down after viewing this one!
And while the styling is certainly going to grab your attention, there's a lot more to this house than just looking good.
The ground floor offers fantastic living accommodation, with the sort of space that makes a real difference to everyday family life. There's room to spread out, entertain, spend time together and, perhaps most importantly, escape from one another occasionally. Because however much you love your family, we all need five minutes of peace now and again!
Throughout the house, there's a lovely balance between the character of its 1920s origins and the more contemporary touches introduced by the current owners. The high ceilings give the rooms a wonderful sense of space, while the carefully chosen colours, finishes and details bring everything bang up to date. It's stylish without feeling like a showroom, and that's not always an easy balance to get right.
Heading upstairs, even the landing deserves a mention. Beautiful herringbone flooring runs through the space, complemented by dark woodwork, and fitted storage. It's the sort of landing that makes you wonder why you've spent your entire life treating yours as somewhere to store the washing basket.
The main bedroom is another room where the owners have really gone for it. A striking geometric feature wall sits behind the bed, while the high ceilings, large window and beautiful flooring give the room a lovely sense of space. But there's a little surprise here too. Tucked away behind a cleverly concealed entrance is a stylish en-suite shower room. And we're not talking about a basic shower cubicle squeezed into a corner either. There's a contemporary walk-in shower with black-framed screening, statement black fittings, a modern wash basin and WC. It's beautifully finished and just adds another little touch of luxury to an already impressive bedroom.
Bedroom two is currently being used as a home office and occasional sitting room, and it works brilliantly. There's plenty of space for a substantial desk setup alongside a sofa, making it ideal for anyone working from home, gaming or simply wanting their own little retreat. Of course, it could equally be returned to use as a bedroom, depending on what your family needs.
Bedroom three is currently a beautifully designed nursery, complete with a full wall of fitted wardrobes, gorgeous feature wallpaper and a clever little alcove. It's another example of how much thought has gone into making the most of the available space. The fitted storage is particularly impressive, and there's certainly no shortage of somewhere to put the clothes, toys and the approximately 400 things children seem to accumulate before their first birthday!
The bathroom accommodation continues the same high standard seen throughout the property, with contemporary finishes and thoughtful design rather than simply choosing whatever happened to be on offer at the local DIY shop.
Outside, the rear garden is another pleasant surprise. A generous paved patio provides plenty of room for outdoor dining, garden furniture and summer entertaining, while steps lead down to a good-sized lawn. Established trees, shrubs and raised planting beds add plenty of greenery, and the length of the garden means there's space for children to play without having to move the barbecue every time somebody wants to kick a football.
It's a garden that offers the best of both worlds, with plenty of entertaining space closer to the house and a more traditional lawned garden beyond.
Ultimately, what makes this property special isn't just the bold wallpaper, the beautiful flooring or even that hidden en-suite. It's the fact that underneath all those lovely finishing touches is a substantial, characterful family home with generous proportions, fantastic living accommodation and a garden to match.
The owners have taken a house that's been standing for over a century and given it a new lease of life, without losing what makes a property of this age so appealing in the first place.
It's bold, it's stylish, it's full of character, and it's certainly not boring.
And quite frankly, we could do with a few more houses like this!
Location
For families, there's a really good choice of schools nearby. Cardinal Griffin Catholic College is practically on the doorstep, while Cannock Chase High School is around half a mile away. For younger children, St Luke's C of E Primary School, Moorhill Primary School and Redhill Primary School are all within approximately a mile.
Cannock Park is just a short stroll away, offering plenty of green space, sports facilities and somewhere to walk the dog or tire the children out. Chase Leisure Centre is also nearby, with its swimming pool, gym and fitness facilities, so there's really no excuse for not using that gym membership! Another lovely bonus is the access to some fantastic countryside walks. Head past the school and the walkway leads you towards the golf course and Shoal Hill Common, perfect for family walks, getting the dog out or simply enjoying a bit of fresh air. And if walking isn't quite enough motivation, The Shoal Hill pub is within walking distance too, so you can always reward yourself with a Sunday roast. That's our kind of exercise!
For everyday essentials, Tesco Express and Heron Foods are both around 0.2 miles away, while Cannock town centre offers a wider selection of shops, supermarkets, cafés and restaurants. There's also the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet at Cannock for anyone who enjoys a little retail therapy.
Commuters are well catered for too. Cannock railway station is approximately 1.5 miles away as the crow flies, providing services towards Birmingham and Rugeley, while the A5 and M6 Toll offer useful road connections towards Birmingham, Stafford and the wider Midlands.
And for those who prefer the great outdoors, Cannock Chase is within easy driving distance, offering miles of woodland walks, cycling trails and some fantastic countryside.
All in all, it's a location that makes everyday life easy, with schools, shops, leisure facilities and transport connections close at hand.
