Description

A beautifully situated house on the rural fringes of Ongar, in about 4.3 acres.

Description

Gables is available for the first time in nearly 50 years, located between Ongar and Epping in a lovely stretch of open countryside. The property, whilst in need of modernisation, could provide an opportunity to significantly extend or redevelop with a far larger house, already seen in neighbouring properties. This would be subject to planning permission. What makes this property so special is its land, extending to over 4.3 acres, and planted with specimen trees and including a small copse. At the front there are large gardens with an in/out drive and the house has far-reaching views over farmland.

The accommodation is over two floors with three first floor bedrooms and two on the ground floor. The entrance hall is light and spacious and provides access to the principal reception rooms at the rear, designed to overlook the gardens and grounds. A spacious sitting room is open plan to a dining room and an adjoining kitchen is at the front of the house and next to a utility room and cloakroom.
The ground floor north wing has two bedrooms and a shower room.

The first floor has three double bedrooms and a family bathroom. All of these rooms offer elevated views over the neighbouring countryside and gardens.

Gables is located on a country lane 2.1 miles from Ongar village. The front plot width is about 145 ft and the overall plot is over 4.3 acres. The house has an in/out horseshoe drive with the garden mainly laid to lawn and incorporating a modern private drainage system. Attached to the house is a double garage. This may represent an opportunity to convert into accommodation, subject to planning permission. To the north there is a wide (52 ft) space beside the house and its garage providing access to the rear gardens and grounds. The main garden and land beyond are west facing then turning south. Immediately behind the house is a substantial terrace designed for afternoon al fresco dining. Beyond, the outlook is completely private over extensive lawn bounded by mature trees. The land is L- shaped in design and continues south to an area with a scattering of trees and a small copse. The title plan shows a pedestrian access onto a footpath, although there is no visual sign from the ground.

In all about 4.3 acres.

Services
Mains water, electricity and gas. Modern private drainage.
