Description

There's something about a period home that you just can't recreate, and Harman Road has that feeling from the moment you walk through the front door. It's full of character, warmth and lovely features, but what I particularly like is that you get all of that without compromising on space.

And I think that's what makes this house so appealing. It's somewhere you could start one chapter of your life and find yourself still loving it several chapters later.

Before we head inside, let's talk about the location, because I think it's a massive part of what makes living here so good. You're just down the road from Wylde Green High Street, with its coffee shops, restaurants, bars and independent businesses. There's a real energy to the area, and I love the idea of being able to wander up for a coffee, meet friends for dinner or just enjoy having everything on your doorstep. Chester Road Station is nearby too, with connections into Birmingham, Sutton Coldfield and Lichfield.

Back at the house, you've got a large gravel driveway providing plenty of off road parking, which is a brilliant thing to have in a location like this.

Step through the front door and the character hits you straight away. Those beautiful reddish quarry tiles in the hallway are exactly the sort of feature I love seeing in an older property. They give the house personality before you've even made it into the first room.

The living room sits at the front of the house, with a big bay window bringing in loads of natural light and a lovely fireplace giving the room a proper focal point. It's a really inviting space, somewhere you can imagine getting comfortable on the sofa after a long day. It has that lovely homely feeling that period properties do so well.

Behind it is a separate dining room, another brilliant space with French doors opening straight out onto the rear garden. I can picture Sunday lunches, friends coming over for dinner or those summer evenings when you've got the doors open and everyone is moving between the house and garden. Having two proper reception rooms is such a good thing, especially when life starts getting a little busier.

Then there's the kitchen at the back, which has its own bay area for a dining table. I really like this because it gives you somewhere for everyday meals, breakfast before work or a morning coffee, while keeping the separate dining room for when you want it. Beyond the kitchen, there's a utility room and downstairs WC, which are exactly the practical extras that make a house like this work so well for modern life.

Upstairs, the space continues to impress. You've got three genuinely generous double bedrooms, and I think that's worth emphasising because there's certainly no box room here.

The principal bedroom stretches across the full width of the house and is a fantastic size. The other two bedrooms are brilliant doubles too, giving you loads of flexibility. Whether you're thinking about starting a family, need somewhere for guests or want a dedicated home office, there's plenty of room for life to change. A family bathroom completes the first floor.

And then there's the garden, which I think is another big reason to love this house.

It's been landscaped relatively recently and has a really lovely feel to it. Immediately outside the back of the house, you've got a patio area with an almost courtyard feel, somewhere I can imagine enjoying a morning coffee or a glass of wine in the evening. Beyond that, there's a lovely lawned garden, and because it's southerly facing, it gets plenty of sunshine.

I particularly like how the garden connects to the dining room. Open those French doors on a sunny afternoon and it becomes a brilliant space for entertaining, relaxing or simply enjoying being at home.

But what really brings everything together for me is the lifestyle this house offers.

Maybe you're currently living in Birmingham, enjoying the city but starting to think about a little more space. Somewhere with a garden, a driveway, proper bedrooms and room to grow. But you're not quite ready to give up being able to walk out for a coffee, meet friends for dinner or jump on a train into town.

That's where I think Harman Road gets it so right.

It's a beautiful period home with genuine character, generous rooms and a sunny garden, all in a location where you've still got everything happening around you.

And for me, that's what makes it special. It's not just somewhere to move into. It's somewhere you can imagine making your own, putting down roots and enjoying for years to come.
