Description

Highfield House - Pre-War Charm, Generous Space and Panoramic Views

Set high above the town on a plot of approximately a third of an acre, this large pre war detached residence has far reaching views across the Staffordshire Moorlands and around 2,875 square feet of beautifully proportioned accommodation. Character runs through the whole house, from original parquet flooring to sweeping bay windows, with the sort of generous space that is increasingly hard to find.

The House

A stained glass oak porch and entrance hall lead to the heart of the home. The lounge has a carved period fireplace with a tiled inset and a curved bay window framing the view, while a sandstone arch opens through to the dining room, so the two rooms work together for entertaining. A further sitting room at the front, with its own bay window, parquet floor and fire surround, makes a quieter retreat for evenings in.

The dining kitchen has real warmth, with timeless units, terracotta tiled flooring, a gas AGA set into an exposed brick recess, integrated fridge freezer, 'Bosch' dishwasher and a stable door to the outside. Windows on two sides look out over the garden, and a glazed door connects through to the games room.

The games room is the showpiece, at approximately 42 square metres. It is currently home to a full size snooker table, with room for seating areas besides, a feature fireplace and sliding doors through to the conservatory. A useful utility room and a practical shower room complete the ground floor. The utility room has plumbing for an automatic washing machine/dryer and houses the boiler.

Upstairs, four bedrooms are arranged around the landing. The principal suite is exceptionally spacious, with a panelled feature wall, a dressing area and fitted wardrobes, and has its own ensuite bathroom with a corner bath. Bedroom two is also very large, with a wide window over the fields beyond, while bedroom three has a bay window with fitted storage, and bedroom four is a comfortable double with built in cupboards. A modern shower room with a large walk in shower serves the other bedrooms.

The Outside

A good sized driveway provides ample parking at the rear of the house. To the front, a paved terrace and decked seating area take in the view, with lawns stepping down below. The tiered gardens rise behind the house in a series of levels, with mature planting, lawns, pergola, secluded seating areas and winding paths. Tucked into the bank is an original air raid shelter, a fascinating piece of history that adds real character.

The Setting

Cheadle is a market town in the Staffordshire Moorlands district, set between Uttoxeter, Leek, Ashbourne and Stoke-on-Trent. The town is around 10 miles east of Stoke-on-Trent and only four miles from the A50, which links Stoke with Derby and the M6. Markets are held in the market place on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and the Alton Towers estate and the villages of the Staffordshire Moorlands are on the doorstep. Cheadle itself boasts a vibrant array of amenities, from charming restaurants to convenient supermarkets and inviting public houses, all just a short drive or walk away. The bustling town is also renowned for its highly regarded educational facilities, including the popular 'Painsley Catholic College'. Additionally, Cheadle is home to the stunning St. Giles Church, known locally as Pugin's Gem. Avid walkers will be pleased to know that Cheadle lies in close proximity to the Peak District National Park with a variety of scenic walking and biking trails waiting to be discovered.

In short: a substantial and characterful home, with space for a large family, a games room that’s hard to match, and views and gardens that make the most of an elevated position. A viewing is highly recommended. Please Quote Ref: JS0462
