Leigh-on-Sea is on the crest of a wave

The coastal town of Leigh-on-Sea was first established as a fishing village between the north bank of the Thames estuary and a cliff in the 11th century. It was later split into two areas, Old Leigh and Old Leigh Town, and its sheltered position made it an international centre for trading and shipbuilding.

Completion of the rail line to London in the 19th century made the town popular with workers in the capital city, and in 2006 it was named 'Best Place to Live in South East England'.

Property in Leigh-on-Sea features a mixture of periods and eclectic styles, including three and four-bedroom semis and post-war detached chalet homes. Flats in converted Victorian villas are popular, as are quietly positioned older style terraced houses.

Plenty to do in Leigh-on-Sea

The shopping is second to none, with the most popular area being The Broadway, which is full of trendy cafes, galleries, bars and studios.

The Old Leigh Regatta promotes a festival atmosphere over one weekend every September, and maritime games and fun can be enjoyed by all the family.

There is a good selection of junior and secondary schools in Leigh-on-Sea, which is just one of the many reasons why the area is popular with families.

So easy to get around

You can reach the town by car by from Junction 29 of the M25 heading onto the A127 towards Southend. An efficient rail system takes you into London Fenchurch Street in just 50 minutes.

Leigh-on-Sea is a fun coastal resort with something to offer all ages. Properties are varied and interesting, and house-hunters are sure to find something to suit all budgets. Its proximity to London makes it an ideal place for family living or commuting to work in the capital.
