    Richard Furnival Agricultural Partner

Background: I'm a dairy farmer's son from North Shropshire, my elder brother still runs the family farm, so the rural life has always been in my blood, however I was never cut out to milk cows 7 days a week so I thought being a rural chartered surveyor and auctioneer was the next best thing. I studied Rural Land Management at the University of Reading and having trained and practised in East Yorkshire and Cheshire, I moved to Lancashire in 1999, becoming a Partner in Armitstead Barnett in 2002. I have been a Member of the RICS since 1997 and Fellow of the CAAV since 1998. I was President of the Lancashire Association of Agricultural Valuers in 2012 and have recently been appointed as a CAAV examiner.

My Role: I manage the Rural Professional side of the business representing and acting for a large number of individual farmer clients and landowners. I am also involved in both agricultural and rural property sectors, from selling small parcels of land to complete Farms. My days are generally spent undertaking valuations for a wide variety of uses, compensation claims for pipeline and utilities, Renewable Energy advice, Agricultural tenancy matters, range of rural property matters, plus dealing with the usual office management and financial matters. I am also an appointed auctioneer for Brockholes Arms Auction Mart on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings selling Clean, Store and Dairy Cattle and Barren Cows. I also conduct On Farm Dispersal sales throughout the year.

A background of over 20 years in the restructuring teams of large firms of accountants, trading corporates in Administration and Administrative Receivership lends itself perfectly to the Operations Management of a multi-location business. After joining in 2017, I've seen the business flourish and the team grow significantly. That together with the addition of new offices makes Armitstead Barnett an exciting, fast-paced place to be.Leading the non-client facing functions of the business and assisting the Partners with the practicalities and commercial elements needed to both grow Armitstead Barnett and manage it on a day to day basis, keeps me busy. With the different offices and departments within the business and the ever-growing staff and continuous improvements program, I love that no two days are ever the same here at AB.

    Wendy Smyth Senior Sales Negotiator

Background: I was born and bred in Longridge and had a brief spell in Scotland after I was married. Once my daughter came along, Lancashire soon called me back and I moved back to Longridge. After leaving school I started work in retail and spent over 15 years in retail management working for household names such as T J Hughes and T K Maxx. I took a career change in 2006 and started at a high street estate agent learning the ropes and building my knowledge of the industry.

My Role: I work on the sales team as a negotiator and deal with most of the sales progression which can be quite stressful at times, but very rewarding when I get to have keys over to new owner. I love assisting people with the process as most people don't buy and sell houses everyday and it can be quite an emotional process. I enjoy all parts of the job and every day is different.
