When you view one of our properties and begin the process of renting it, we pledge to support you in every way we can. Our aim is to set ourselves apart from our competitors by making it as easy as possible for you to find somewhere to live.

    As soon as you have set your heart on the property you want, you should confirm this to the branch and we will immediately conduct a reference check and possibly contact your guarantors. Our in-house property professionals will then begin working on a bespoke tenancy agreement that takes your rights and wishes into consideration. We will also lodge your deposit in a government-backed scheme.

    When it comes to your moving day, we will complete and agree an inventory with you and your landlord. We will also verify the condition of your new home to ensure it is everything you are hoping for.

    You should make sure you are happy with the property before signing the inventory, as this document can be used to protect yourself later in the tenancy.

  • Introduction

    Many of the team live within the historic Civil War Market Town of Great Torrington. The Town caters well for its inhabitants with a comprehensive range of local and national shopping, schooling and recreational facilities including an Arts Centre and Cinema, 9 hole Golf Course, Swimming Pool, Weekly Pannier Market and Heritage Centre together with the RHS Gardens at Rosemoor and the Tarka Trail Cycling and Walking Route which connects Bideford, Barnstaple and Braunton.

    The town is surrounded by approximately 365 acres of common providing a number of country pursuits including walking, riding and fishing on the River Torridge.

    The larger towns of Bideford and Barnstaple are easily reached by car or public transport and the North Devon countryside and spectacular coasts are only a short drive away.

    Hayley Smaldon - Lettings Manager
    Hayley impressed us so much during her first interview that we offered her the job on the spot. 

    Hayley was born and raised in nearby Barnstaple and some of her previous roles include marketing, sales and customer service. Combining these attributes and applying them to her role here in Torrington has seen her swiftly move to the position of Manager where she oversees the daily running of this very busy department.

    She is always forthcoming with excellent ideas to improve the service we offer and demonstrates good business acumen in managing to persuade us very easily to invest so we can continue to offer an innovative service served in plain English.

    Sarah Adams - Lettings Negotiator & Valuer
    Sarah has enjoyed an established career in the property industry in both residential sales and surveying, and joined lettings in Torrington after a life changing move which saw her build, own and run a restaurant in Nicaragua overlooking mountains and volcanoes. As her family grew she returned to her home in North Devon and being an experienced landlord herself offers a wealth of expertise, particularly of the management and maintenance of these properties, and is an enthusiastic and capable valuer with superb marketing skills. She communicates eloquently and in multiple languages.

    Megan is a relatively new addition (3 years) to the team who was chosen for the position because of her excellent work ethic. At the time of her employment she was finishing off a college course in business as well as working two jobs. She displays maturity beyond her years and handles any situation coolly and calmly and has so far exceeded not only our expectations, but risen to every challenge put to her. We have no hesitation in saying that Megan has a bright future and her drive and commitment will undoubtedly see her rising through the ranks should she wish to.

    Oliver Martin - Lettings Negotiator & Valuer 
    Oliver was born and raised here in Torrington and the surrounding villages and knows the area like the back of his hand, which we are sure, has had some bearing on him becoming the top seller and letting agent in the office.
    As well as being a confident and knowledgeable valuer, he is ambitious, polite, approachable, and never has a bad word to say about anything. A very integral member of the team.

    Sharon Spratley -  Accountant 
    It is fair to say that Hatherleigh' s (now Okehapton) success is owed to Sharon's efforts, as she was present and working alone in the office when it first opened and showed true tenacity and ability in producing our first sales for the office. Sharon is now based in the Torrington Office in the busy lettings department, managing the accounts and still being hands on in a sales role when the occasion arises.

    Mark Spratley - Director
    With his mother and father both having been estate agents, it appeared inevitable that Mark would follow in their footsteps. After developing his own passion for property, he took his first position in the family trade shortly after leaving school, working in the counties of Surrey, Hampshire and Berkshire. He later worked on the continent, before finding the perfect place to put down roots in beautiful Devon.

    After working at our busy Barnstaple branch, Mark was offered the opportunity to manage the Torrington Branch. Subsequently, he became a partner in both the Torrington and Hatherleigh branches.

    Mark's business model is to remove all the bad elements he has observed during his time in the industry to date and to highlight the good aspects. He combines modern and traditional marketing techniques to make us a refreshing and individual agency to work with.
