    The area has been voted the best place to live in the UK 6 times in the last 7 years, having scored highly for quality of life, life expectancy, good schools, excellent commuter links, low crime rates and generally a good place to bring up a family.

    Fleet and Church Crookham are the main centres of population in Hart District, situated in North East Hampshire and encompassing Crookham Village & Dogmersfield, with a population in excess of 80,000.

    The name Fleet is believed to have come from the French word "Le Flete", meaning shallow water and referring to Fleet Pond and Nature Reserve, the largest freshwater lake in Hampshire, albeit one of the shallowest.

    The railway company promoted Fleet Pond as a destination for day excursions and many people came down from London to skate on the Pond during the winter. This attracted a number of people, particularly retired army officers, who moved to the area bounded by Fleet Road, Elvetham Road and Reading Road North, the foundations of which was to become known locally as "The Blue Triangle" which features some of the area's oldest and largest dwellings.
