    Wapping was once a hive of trading activity, with ships unloading cargo from the farthest corners of the world. Redevelopment of the area started in the 1980s and continues to this day. Many of the area's old warehouses are now highly sought-after apartments, popular with City and Canary Wharf workers. There are superb transport links from various stations in the area, but you can walk to Bank in around 20 minutes.

At Shadwell Basin you'll find one of the oldest Thames-side pubs, The Prospect of Whitby, which dates back to the sixteenth century.
