Renting a property through Starkey&Brown

Starkey&Brown can help tenants to find the perfect property. Whether you are looking for a flat, a large detached property or student accommodation, we are here to help.

All you have to do is get in touch and our team of lettings consultants will begin the process of finding the ideal place to call home.

Tenant Fees

LINCOLN
Single Application Fee (over-18s)£120.00 inc VAT
Joint Application Fee£240Guarantor Fee (if requested), per guarantor£120.00 inc VAT
Administration Fee, per tenancy£150.00 inc VATPet Agreement Fee, per pet£60.00 inc VAT

Student application fees for house shares (Lincoln only) are as follows:
Application & administration fee - £60.00 INC VAT per person
Guarantor fee - £60.00 INC VAT per guarantor

Application withdrawal fee (Lincoln only) - Should you choose to withdraw your application after application fees have been paid but prior to referencing beginning a fee of £30 INC VAT will be charged to the refunded amount. If referencing has commenced, the application fees will not be refunded, the administration fee will be returned minus £60 INC VAT withdrawal fee.

An application and administration fee is due to Starkey & Brown to secure the tenancy, at which point the property will be removed from advertising and no other prospective tenants will be shown around. The fee will also cover the costs of referencing and credit checks. These fees are non refundable unless the property is withdrawn by the landlord.

Michael Brown - Director

Michael was born in Middlesbrough, however has lived in Lincoln since he was 3 years old so has excellent knowledge of the local area.His keen interests are travelling, watching and playing football. Michael is passionate about raising money for charity and in April 2011 and 2013 took part in the Lincoln 10km road race raising over £300 for Great Ormond Street Children's Hospital.He was also the brains behind the Starkey&Brown skydive in the summer of 2014 which raised over £8,000.

David Starkey - Director

David, who was born in Scunthorpe, has a wealth of estate agency experience, predominantly in Lincoln, but also in Boston, London and even in the USA!!He is married with three children, likes travelling and has recently taken up cycling. Another of David's passions is surfing, which he likes to do as regularly as possible, at various coastal points around England, even in the winter!!!

Clare Fordyce - Branch Manager

Clare joined our team in December 2011 as a Senior Sales Negotiator. Early in 2013 she was promoted to Assistant Sales Manager which led to her current position of Sales Manager in June of that year. In June 2017 Clare was further promoted to Branch Manager of the Lincoln office.In May 2014 Clare was one of only five winners in the UK to take the People Award at the 2014 ESTAS. Later that year she also passed her NFOPP Level Three Award in The Sale of Residential Property. Not one to stop there, she is also the proud owner of a Level 3 qualification in First Line Management and in 2017 passed the Level 5 in Leadership and Management qualification through the ILM institute.One of Clare's favourite hobbies is hopping into her 1970s VW camper van and driving off around Europe. She is also a bit of a Formula One fan.

Ashleigh Bridgwater - Assistant Lettings Manager

Ashleigh joined the lettings department in ¿August 2016 as our Senior Property Coordinator. Born in the village of Dunholme where she still lives with her husband, Ashleigh has worked in the lettings industry for two-and-a-half years.Ashleigh showed great potential at Starkey&Brown from the start and, within six weeks, she was made Assistant Lettings Manager.She enjoys walking and meals out with friends.

Billie Boyd - Property Co-ordinator

Billie joined our lettings department in June 2015 as an apprentice, taking on the role of Lettings Assistant. In January 2018 she changed roles to Property Coordinator.Born in Liverpool she moved to Wragby when she was 11, and has settled down nicely in the village.She likes cycling with her partner and dog Rocky in the countryside, and playing football. A green belt in Judo, Billie is a dab hand with the nunchucks, however we prefer the more friendly approach at Starkey&Brown!!

Anita Savage - Property Coordinator

Anita joined Starkey&Brown as Sales Consultant in August 2014 and moved over as Sales Progressor in July 2015 where she overlooked the sale of both Lincoln and Scunthorpe properties, putting in the legwork with solicitors and surveyors to get the new owners into their property as soon as possible.In March 2018 Anita fancied a career change and hopped over into our lettings department where she is now Property Coordinator. Anita now handles maintenance issues for landlords and tenants and continues to provide the great customer service she is known for.

Vicky joined Starkey&Brown in October 2015 as Lettings Consultant and, with more than 20 years' customer service experience, is a complete asset to the company. Among numerous other tasks Vicky deals with tenancy applications, reference checks and ensures all properties are listed on our website and other internet portals.With previous study of interior architecture and interior design, Vicky is a bit of a dab hand at decorating, but her main passion is helping tenants find their perfect property.In her spare time Vicky loves spending time with her family and travelling.

Ben Starkey - Branch Manager (MNAEA)

Ben joined Starkey&Brown in August 2014 as a part-time Sales Consultant, becoming full-time in May 2017. In April 2021 he was promoted to Senior Sales Consultant and in November 2024 became Branch Manager. When he's not hard at work selling houses, Ben spends most of his time in soft play areas and on days out with his two children. He's also partial to the odd game of darts.

Frazer Cobb - Senior Property Consultant (MNAEA)

Frazer joined Starkey&Brown as a Sales Consultant in July 2015, and made the big bold move to become a Property Consultant in March 2017, moving into a senior role in January 2020. Frazer comes with an impressive sporting background and has qualifications galore in fitness training, football coaching and fitness instructing. He has also achieved a triple distinction in Sport (Performance & Excellence). With apprenticeships in Sporting Excellence and more impressively as a footballer at Lincoln City, Frazer went on to play for Lincoln City at a professional level. He also has a HNC in Construction and Civil Engineering.

Anita Freeman - Sales Consultant

Anita originally joined Starkey&Brown in August 2014 and worked in roles of Sales Consultant, Sales Progressor and Property Coordinator before leaving in November 2019. She returned in May 2021 as Sales Consultant. Anita is the ultimate rock chick and often attends rock festivals up and down the country. When she's not strumming an air guitar she enjoys meals out and being top nannie to her grandchildren.

Sophie joined Starkey&Brown's team in March 2020 as Sales Consultant and was promoted to Senior Sales Consultant in November 2024. With seven years' estate agency experience Sophie gives a first-class experience to all clients, whether selling or buying. Angie passed her NFOPP Level 3 Award in September 2014 and loves nothing more than the end result of handing over keys to an excited, and very grateful, new buyer. Angie joined the Lincoln branch of Starkey&Brown in September 2013 as Sales Progressor and has immense experience in estate agency after spending 15 years previously as a Senior Sales Consultant.

Melanie Alsop-Hoare - Lettings Consultant (MARLA)

Melanie joined Starkey&Brown as Lettings Consultant in October 2024. Originally from Manchester, Melanie first came to Lincoln in 1988 after being posted to RAF Waddington during her career in supplies and logistics. She then fell in love with our great city - and decided to stay. With 30 years' experience in all areas of accounts - 14 of those years having been within lettings - Melanie has built up a wealth of knowledge and experience in the lettings industry. She is also ARLA qualified which means that any rental properties will be totally safe in her hands. Happily married, Melanie loves spending time with her family and taking long walks with her two dogs.

Suzi Lau - Senior Administrator

Susan, or 'Suzi' was born in Nottingham and moved to Lincoln when she was 2 years old. She takes care of all administration duties in our office, including producing brochures. Suzi started with Starkey&Brown six months after the office doors opened in 2006 and has been our estate agency administrator since, stepping up to Senior Administrator in January 2013. Her keen interests away from the workplace are going to the gym, music and camping trips. She enjoys travelling and names Hong Kong and New York as two of the best places she has travelled to.
