A Mortgage in Principle isn’t a mortgage offer, and you’re under no obligation to take out a mortgage with NatWest or any other lender. And remember, if you miss repayments, your home could be at risk. NatWest pays Rightmove a fee for each completed mortgage.

What is a Mortgage in Principle?

A Mortgage in Principle, also called an Agreement or Decision in Principle, is a certificate from a lender showing how much they might lend you.

You simply tell them your income and outgoings, they run a soft check, and you get your results.

But a Mortgage in Principle isn’t a mortgage offer. In short: it’s a strong hint, not a promise. The lender still has to properly check everything (your payslips, the actual property, etc.) before they give you a real, binding offer.
